DIVISION: Children, Youth and Family Services PROGRAM: School Based Services (SBS) POSITION: Behavioral Interventionist – Summer Program- Temporary REPORTS TO: SBS Program Director, SBS Case Manager SUMMARY OF POSITION: This is a temporary full-time position providing direct supervision to child or youth enrolled in a school-based summer program. Staff will implement behavioral programming and provide counseling in social, recreational, and daily living skills in school and community settings. Program initiatives may include hiking, outdoor sports, and visits to local points of interest such as the Waterbury Reservoir, Wrightsville beach and Funspot in Laconia, NH. SPECIFIC DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

Provide counseling in social and recreational/leisure skills.

Successfully follow and implement written behavioral programming and crisis plans within educational and community settings.

Record behavior, daily activities, and implementation of service plans in an accurate, detailed and timely manner utilizing agency electronic medical record software.

Communicate well with all parties involved with child, both verbally in writing.

Provide client transportation in your own vehicle to and from community activities, mental health appointments and school. Staff is responsible to carry adequate insurance coverage.

To familiarize, implement and comply with WCMHS policies and procedures.

Willingness to learn crisis de-escalation and passive restraint techniques.

To manage the physical safety of client and others.

Follow supervision directives.

Perform other duties / responsibilities as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Education: High School diploma or General Education Diploma (GED) required; bachelor’s degree preferred

Experience: Experience providing direct instruction and therapeutic services to children with challenging behaviors and/or mental health challenges preferred. Possession of a valid driver’s license, excellent driving record and access to a safe, reliable, insured vehicle are required.

Physical Requirements:

Ability to lift, carry, and transfer up to 50 pounds.

Continuously walk at least one mile and light hiking.

Run after children as necessary to ensure safety.

Physically restrain children and youth who are a danger to self or others in accordance with handle with care training and requirements as outlined by designated handle with care instructors.

Able to sit and/or stand for extended periods of time.

Able to drive to and from community locations as needed.
