Job Title: Junior Automation and Integration Specialist
Job Summary:
We are seeking a motivated Junior Automation and Integration Specialist with foundational programming and hardware experience to work with a highly technical owner on a part-time basis. Key Responsibilities:
Assist in the installation and activation of home automation devices, including VoIP cameras, SONOs speakers, and Raspberry Pi touchscreens.
Support the integration of various systems with Home Assistant, including Frigate Video Controller, Lutron Controller and other custom controller solutions.
Participate in the optimization of video and audio systems for enhanced fidelity and auto-detection capabilities.
Contribute to the development and refinement of Python programs for transmitting security inputs to Home Assistant via MQTT.
Aid in the setup and testing of security and monitoring enhancements, such as water bug relay systems and Zwave water main shutdown systems.
Assist in networking tasks, including modifying network subnets and activating VLAN services.
Help in the physical setup and organization of hardware, including punch down, racking, and AV room arrangements.
Support the documentation and diagram development process for system configurations and workflows.
Qualifications:
Some demonstrable programming experience, particularly in Python or similar languages.
Basic understanding of hardware setup and configuration.
Interest in home automation, security systems, and IT infrastructure.
Eagerness to learn and contribute.
Effective communication skills and the ability to follow detailed instructions.
Availability to work 8 hours per week, with flexibility as needed.
Compensation:
$35 per hour, plus reasonable travel time compensation on a 1099 basis.
Projects are expected to take about 6 months or more, at about 8 hours worked per week.

- Confirm all Zwave devices are correctly referenced in Home Assistant.
- Integrate Snow Melt systems to Home Assistant.
- Integrate eOne waste system to Home Assistant.
- Build Home Assistant based water sprinkler scheduling system.
- Develop privacy-based voice activation system on Home Assistant.
- Refine and optimize Lutron Controller to Home Assistant Controller.
Security and Monitoring Enhancements
- Install two new VoIP cameras and activate them in the video system.
- Optimize video system for high-fidelity video, audio, and auto-detection.
- Install water bugs relay system and test.
- Build Python program to transmit security inputs to Home Assistant via MQTT.
- Activate Zwave water main shutdown system.
- Refine motion detector placements.
Networking and System Optimization
- Modify the network to use a larger subnet.
- Activate VLAN Services.
- Optimize servers and systems for reboots and backups (local and remote).
- Activate, test, and refine the electrical load-shedding system.
Infrastructure and Hardware Installation
- Install 10+ Raspberry Pi touchscreens with ZWave on-off remote switching.
- Clean up punch down and racking to make neat.
- Clean up AV Room including mounting more equipment on the wall.
- Optimize Golf Simulator system.
User Experience and Control Systems
- Refine Home Assistant user interface.
- Refine Lutron Controller programs for lighting, shades, and other electrical.
Documentation and Maintenance
- Develop documentation and diagrams.
