This will be a full-time, hourly position at 40 hours a week. The typical work schedule is 8-4, MON - FRI but there may be occasions when work is needed beyond the normal schedule including the rare possibility of weekends. This also includes the possibility of work to support clinical activities during University of Utah academic closure days.Performs clinical and research diagnostic imaging procedures to assist the nuclear medicine physicians, radiologists, and scientists in the Center for Quantitative Cancer Imaging ( CQCI ), while adhering to all radiation safety policies and functioning as a liaison between the patient and physician. Perform study coordination to support imaging clinical trials. Perform image processing and analysis to support imaging response assessment in therapeutic clinical trials. Perform preclinical imaging studies in compliance with AAALAC , IACUC and other regulatory requirements. Administer diagnostic and/or therapeutic radiopharmaceuticals to patients by I.V. injection, infusion, inhalation or oral administration.

Perform full range of PET dynamic and wholebody imaging procedures.

Perform CT imaging as part of PET /CT procedure including fully diagnostic studies using i.v. and oral contrast.

Perform study coordination of imaging clinical trials.

Perform preclinical imaging studies using small animal SPECT /CT and PET / MRI scanners.

Manage clinical trial protocols and performs image analysis to support tumor imaging response assessment in clinical trials.

Support the submission and reporting related to INDs of imaging radiopharmaceutials.

Maintain compliance with radiation safety policies and documentation requirements for receipt, disposal, and administration of radiopharmaceuticals.

Explain procedures and research studies to the patients.

Prepare the instrument sets and equipment, and assists the patient in positioning to obtain required diagnostic quality.

Communicate patient status and information to the appropriate physician.

Identify and perform quality control measures for imaging devices, radiation survey meterst, dose calibrators, well counters, and gamma counters.

Assist in maintaining laboratory inventory and ordering supplies.

Verify scan quality and performs computer image and data processing including archiving and data transfer to research and clinical archives (e.g., PACS ).

Calculate quantity of radiopharmaceutical activity and volume to be administered following prescribed procedures.

Assay specimens and prepares standards in scintillation counting systems, and performs calculations and documentation of results.

Schedule patients for PET /CT exams.

The staff member must be able to demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the patients served on his or her assigned unit. The individual must demonstrate knowledge of the principles of life span growth and development and the ability to assess data regarding the patient’s status and provide care as described in the department’s policies and procedures manual.This job description has been designed to indicate the general nature and level of work performed by employees within this classification. The eCredential is to be obtained within 30 days of hire.Current licensure to practice as a Radiologic Technologist in the State of Utah.Registration with the American Registry of Radiological Technologists ( ARRT ) as a R.T. (CT) ( ARRT ).One of the followingNuclear Medicine Technician Certification.Nuclear Medicine Technology Certification Board ( NMTCB ) or ARRT Registration as Nuclear Medicine Technology R.T. (N)( ARRT ).Training and/or experience in the latest techniques of radiation safety, radiopharmaceutical preparation and computer processing techniques to perform patient examinations.Registration with the American Registry of Radiological Technologists ( ARRT ) as a R.T. (CT) ( ARRT ) is required within one year of hire date.PreferencesRequired:

Experience in performing PET and CT imaging and related image processing

Training and/or experience in the latest techniques of radiation safety and radiopharmaceutical administration to perform patient imaging examinations and radioisotope therapies

Knowledge of anatomy and interpretation of cross-sectional imaging with CT and MRI

Demonstrated human relations and effective communication skills

Preferred:

Experience in performing research imaging studies and study coordination in clinical trials

Knowledge of current imaging response assessment criteria used in cancer clinical trials

Prior experience of preclinical imaging is a plus
