The candidate will research how genetics and genomics influence platelet function, bleeding, and clot formation. The candidate will be responsible for developing and utilizing cutting-edge CRISPR /Cas9 approaches in primary human hematopoietic progenitors to evaluate gene functions and the effect of genetic variants in blood cells, including platelets and megakaryocytes. This will involve designing and conducting high throughput functional assays and pooled library screens followed by validation of findings in cell culture and mouse models. The successful candidate will have the opportunity to prepare themselves for academic or industry success through presentations, publications, grant writing, and exposure to a diverse range of scientific techniques and collaboration opportunities.ResponsibilitiesDesign and execute CRISPR /Cas9-based experiments in primary human blood cells to evaluate gene functions and genetic variants in blood cells Develop, optimize, and analyze high throughput functional assays and pooled library screensHelp with the validation of candidate variants and genes in mouse modelsAnalyze data using relevant software and present findings in internal and external meetingsContribute to scientific publications and grant proposalsCollaborate with other members of the team and assist with training lab membersMaintain detailed laboratory notebooks and ensure compliance with laboratory safety guidelinesPresent at relevant scientific conferences and meetings to stay current with the field.Minimum QualificationsPreferencesType Benefited StaffSpecial Instructions SummaryAdditional InformationThe University is a participating employer with Utah Retirement Systems (“URS”).
