In addition to all lower classification requirements, the employee will maintain and repair all equipment assigned in his area with job assignments given only in general terms. Most assignments will be completed without direct supervision. He/she will do most of their own design, layout, and engineering work. He/she will make, file, and maintain as-built drawings, basic schematics, and documentation of programs they install for future reference. He/she will possess a strong knowledge of the current National Electrical Code to properly install equipment assigned, to perform in a safe and workmanship-like manner. He/she will accept responsibility for the training, instruction, supervision, and safety of any classifications or personnel as assigned.Requirements:The employee will possess a general knowledge of the electrical and instrumentation field and possess strong specific knowledge in six of the following major categories. (Note: a category chosen for specific knowledge can be used again for future advancements; this is an additive skill system. Some areas are mandatory, others are elective.) It is assumed that the knowledge possessed in a previously acquired area will have progressed for each advancement evaluation.Mandatory = Area 2, 3, 4 and 7Elective = any other areaArea 1: Pneumatic Control Systems:
Maintains, installs, adjusts, calibrates, repairs, modifies, and replaces, configures, programs, and documents, pneumatic instruments and equipment in the field of Pneumatic Controls, such as but not limited to: Air dryers, air compressors, air lines, fittings and manifolds, air rams, positioners, operators, purge meters, control valves and their operators, flow indicators, displacement meters, transducers, D/P cells, orifice plates, pressure and temperature indicators and gauges, recorders, and controllers, and other such related equipment as required.
Area 2: Electrical Control Systems:
Maintains, installs, adjusts, calibrates, repairs, modifies, replaces, configures, programs and documents, electrical controls and equipment in the field of Electrical Controls such as, but not limited to: electro/pneumatic air rams and their operators, packaging machines and their controls, electro/pneumatic control valves and their operators, electric pressure and temperature indicators and controllers, cascade interlock systems, boiler controls, flame fired equipment controls, motors, lighting, timers, counters, relays, and basic PLC’s, and other such related equipment as required.
Area 3: Electronic/Logical Control Systems:
Maintains, installs, adjusts, calibrates, repairs, modifies and replaces, configures, programs and documents, electrical controls and equipment in the field of Electronic/Logical Controls such as, but not limited to: Small PLC’s, Intermediate PLC’S, micro-computers, desk top/portable computers, FM radios, telephones, communications equipment, data-transferal equipment, modems, micro-processor based equipment, frequency drives, DC drives, AC drives, timers, counters, relays, packing machines, printers, and other such related equipment as required.
Area 4: Electronic Instrumentation Systems:
Maintains, installs, adjusts, calibrates, repairs, modifies, and replaces, configures, programs, electrical controls and equipment in the field of electronic based equipment such as, but not limited to: PLC’s, computers, Doppler effect meters, magnetic flow meters, turbine meters, vortex flow meters, density meters, scales, strain gauges, temperature/pressure/flow measuring devices, recorders, temperature/pressure/flow controllers, temperature/pressure/flow indicators, CRT’s Terminals, computer peripheral devices, and other such related equipment as required.
Area 5: Refrigeration and Heat Control Systems:
Maintains, installs, adjusts, calibrates, repairs, modifies, and replaces, configures, programs, and documents, electrical controls and equipment in the field of Refrigeration and Heating such as, but not limited to: Air conditioning controls, relays, timers, counters, pressure devices, temperature devices, flow devices, condensers, evaporators, fans, small PLC’s, expansion valves, tubing, piping, soldering, welding, brazing, Freon charging, heating elements, coils, heat exchangers, thermostats, air handling devices, and other such related equipment as required.
Area 6: Data Systems:
Maintains, creates, implements, adjusts, repairs, updates, modifies, replaces, configures, programs, and documents, in the field of Computer Engineering such as, but not limited to: estimating, cost controls, design, filing, schematics, reports, spreadsheets, graphing, word-processing, data-based systems, expediting, ordering, planning, staging, inventorying, printouts, documentation, library, equipment OEM filing, statistics updating, log keeping, MSD updating, scheduling, vendor files, work order systems, and other such related systems as required.
Area 7: Electrical Power Systems
Maintains, creates, implements, adjusts, repairs, updates, modifies, replaces, configures, programs, and documents, in the field of Electrical Power Systems such as but not limited to: Overhead power distribution systems of the 600 volt class, Overhead power distribution systems of the 12.47kv class, Underground distribution systems of the 600 and 12.47kv class, transformers, lightning arrestors, services, feeders, terminations, power breakers, motor control centers, bussing, cable-ways, race-ways, cut-outs, down-guys, dead-ends, bucket-truck work, vaults, branch services and feeders, certified 5kv termination and splicing, understand and troubleshoot relay logic and other such related systems as required.
QualificationsQualifications:To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.Education and/or Experience:
High school diploma or demonstrated equivalent.
Must have a current Journeyman’s license
Minimum of 8 to10 years experience as an electrical maintenance technician in an industrial or mining environment, or demonstrated equivalent combination of education and experience.
Demonstrated experience in PLC controls troubleshooting.
Must have the ability to work in an aerial lift, bucket truck or scissor lift at heights up to 30 feet or higher.
Experience with maintenance and construction activities.
High proficiency level in computer skills and software; Microsoft office products, and Rockwell Automation.
Analytical and problem-solving skills.
Ability to work outside under extreme hot/cold conditions.
10 years of experience with electrical industrial power and automation systems or equivalent.
Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
