Journeyman Machinist

Job ID: 2485 The Space Dynamics Laboratory (SDL) is seeking a Journeyman-Level Machinist to perform machining operations in support of developmental activities. Key Responsibilities:

Working from sketches, drawings, and engineering instructions to build intricate and complex parts, tools, and/or fixtures to specifications for development and prototype projects

Planning and executing assignments using machine tools, such as milling machines and lathes (both CNC and manual), drill presses, shear, etc.

Designing and constructing temporary tools, jigs, and fixtures needed to produce experimental parts

Checking work to ensure dimensions are within prescribed tolerances

Required Qualifications:

High school diploma

5 years’ experience working in a machine shop

Ability to interpret GD&T and conventional dimensioning

Must have a solid working knowledge of advanced shop mathematics

Solid understanding of the working qualities of various materials

Must be a US citizen, lawful permanent resident of the US, or other US Person

Preferred Qualifications:

Experience working in a prototype machine shop

Experience with Mastercam CAD/CAM software
