Join us.Job DescriptionAECOM is seeking a Staff Geotechnical Engineer to work with our Salt Lake City geotechnical group, as well as interdisciplinary groups from Salt Lake City and other offices, to deliver consulting services on rewarding infrastructure projects. Our group provides geotechnical services in a variety of sectors, the foremost being dams, levees, mining, civil works, transportation, and energy. You will have opportunities to work on local, national, and if desired, international projects, engaging in project life cycles from planning and site investigation through detailed design and construction.As a Staff Geotechnical Engineer, you will be given responsibilities to lead engineering analysis, design, and reporting to meet client needs and deliver on project commitments. You will have opportunities to learn from industry experts and mentor younger engineers. You will be supported as you continue to develop your career as a geotechnical engineer. Provide geotechnical engineering and design support for dams, levees, mining, civil works, transportation, energy, and other projects

Plan, perform, and oversee geotechnical site investigations, including subsurface investigations, field and laboratory testing of soil and rock materials

Plan, oversee installation, monitor, and analyze associated data from geotechnical instrumentation

Perform and/or support junior engineers in completing geotechnical engineering calculations, analysis, and design; preparing geotechnical recommendations; writing and reviewing technical reports; and preparing and reviewing design drawings and specifications

Provide onsite field support and oversight for geotechnical and earthwork construction

Perform and/or support junior engineers in completing engineering reviews of existing infrastructure facilities, and preparing associated technical reports and evaluations

Effectively and proactively communicate with geotechnical and interdisciplinary team members, and exercise engineering judgement, to complete project objectives and meet client needs.

Research and implement technical methods, standard techniques, procedures, regulations, and criteria to carry out or oversee engineering tasks.

Assume responsibility for assignments and project elements, follow quality procedures and strive for quality and excellence in all work products, and perform work in an honest and ethical manner

Work under the supervision of a project manager or senior-level team member

Mentor younger engineers to support their development and success

Demonstrate ability to build trusting working relationships with clients and colleagues

QualificationsMinimum Requirements:

Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering with a focus in geotechnical engineering from an ABET-accredited university + 2 years of relevant experience or demonstrated equivalency of education and/or experience.

Preferred Qualifications:

Master’s degree in civil engineering with an emphasis in geotechnical engineering

3 years of geotechnical consulting experience

Licensed Professional Engineer (PE) and ability to obtain licensure in Utah within 3 months

Field, laboratory, analysis, and design experience supporting projects in dams, levees, mining, civil works, transportation, or energy sectors, including where there is a significant seismic hazard

Competency/proficiency in performing geotechnical analysis and design using engineering software such as Excel, gINT, GeoStudio (SEEP/W, SLOPE/W), PLAXIS, FLAC, UTEXAS, Settle3, AutoCAD/Civil 3D, and Visual Basic

Strong verbal communication and technical writing skills

Proficiency working in Excel and Word

Experience and competency to complete job responsibilities

Regular project site travel required. (up to 25%)

Compensation

The offered rate of compensation (Utah locations only) will be based on individual education, qualifications, experience, and work location. The target salary range for this position is $80,000-$105,000.
