Job Description:Medical Director, Glucose and Diabetes Stewardship Program provides oversight of Intermountain Health’s glycemic control and diabetes services. Medical Director is responsible for the development and operations of the Glucose and Diabetes Stewardship Program (GDSP).The goal of Glucose and Diabetes Stewardship Program is to improve the quality of glucometrics and associated outcomes with expert Endocrinology and Pharmacy led implementation of clinical best practices within the Intermountain Health acute care space, contracted Outreach hospitals, and Intermountain Health clinics. Hyperglycemia and hypoglycemia have known major impacts on quality outcomes. Insulin is a high-risk medication being used on thousands of patients yearly in our hospitals. Creating a centralized, focused strategy on management patients with glycemic control needs is necessary in providing high value care to acutely ill patients and downstream effect on transition to ambulatory care. The Medical Director reports to Medical Director, Pharmacy ServicesThe program will use an approach similar to Antimicrobial Stewardship with close alignment to pharmacy services, Intermountain’s established TeleHealth infrastructure, as well as quality improvement and electronic surveillance tools. The position involves program leadership, development, education, population-level quality measure implementation, and the provision of excellent clinical care.Essential Functions
Provide vision, direction, and leadership for GDSP.
Evaluate current systemwide inpatient glycemic control performance, current glycemic control protocols, and pharmacy collaborative practice agreement
Design and direct an enterprise-wide program with regards to patient care, program development, research, and education.
Ensure the clinical standards and care processes in GDSP align with system-level standards and processes to the maximum extent possible.
Assist in efforts to ensure adherence to national reporting requirements such as CMS
Create order sets, smart sets, flow sheets and other tools in EPIC to support diabetes workflows and the safe prescribing and administration of insulin and other diabetes medications in the inpatient and outpatient setting
Provide subject matter expert consultation on project development, assistance with medical staff education, development of tele-mentorship, assistance with QI and research efforts, and dissemination of Intermountain Health policies and practices related to glycemic control.
Liaise with outpatient glycemic control team regarding projects relevant to transitions of care and overall population health.
Expand outpatient diabetes and glycemic control telehealth services for patients and regional hospitals using TeleHealth infrastructure and population-health level approach to diabetes in all IH care settings.
Collaborate with other Telehealth clinical services on patient management issues and shared protocol development. (e.g. tele-critical care, tele- hospitalist program, tele-Infectious Diseases and other teleservices)
Support TeleHealth Outreach efforts to non-Intermountain facilities.
Attend applicable meetings on a regular basis (if unable to attend a meeting, another physician may be appointed to attend in Physician’s place).
Hold regular meetings with GDSP staff and support staff.

Minimum Qualifications
MD or DO board-certified or board-eligible in Endocrinology
Active Medical Licensure
Qualify for active medical licenses in all of the states served by the Glucose and Diabetes Stewardship program
Experience in leading successful quality improvement projects within the clinical setting.
Effective verbal, written, and interpersonal communications skills.
Preferred Qualifications
Minimum of 5 years of practice in Endocrinology
Minimum of 2 years of experience with Diabetes and Glycemic Control leadership
Physical Requirements
