Position Summary:Under close direction of senior research staff, conducts activities to support research projectsSeasonal Hires are a temporary status and therefore may not be employed for a period of more than four and ½ months. These individuals may be hired either as full-time or part-time and must be a minimum age of 16 yearsAn internship is available for the summer of 2024 at McWilliams School of Biomedical Informatics. The intern will receive training in biomedical data science and bioinformatics, working on analyzing data to understand human diseases. The intern should have skills and training in data analysis tools and programming languages, such as Python, R, SQL, or others relevant to the role , proficiency in packages and libraries commonly used in machine learning, such as Pandas, PyTorch, and Huggingface Transformer , and familiarity with the fundamentals of machine learning, including supervised and unsupervised learning, model evaluation techniques, and feature engineeringPosition Key Accountabilities:

Interns will work alongside a team of researchers who are passionate about mentorship.Collect, clean, and preprocess data from various sources in biomedicine, ensuring it is ready for machine learning tasks.

Assist in developing and training machine learning models and NLP models using libraries like PyTorch, and Huggingface Transformer.

Evaluate and fine-tune model performance on diverse datasets.

Attend and participate (where appropriate) in various group meetings, project planning sessions, and prioritization discussions.

Develop visualization tools to explain and interpret machine learning model results for a broader audience.
