Job Summary

Assist in providing Supported Employment services to customers of Unicorn Center in providing the necessary aid to be placed in competitive employment. The SE Specialist will provide training assistance, make job placements and provide ongoing support to our clients while encouraging independence. Ability to provide Supported Employment Services in compliance of (TWS-VRS) Texas Workforce Solutions-Vocational Rehab Services and other funding sources, and complete documentation in required time frames. Will be required to complete and get credentialed in Job Skills Training, Job Placement and Supported Employment courses through the University of North Texas (UNT).

Essential Job Duties

Planning, Organizing

Will maintain electronic schedule of daily activities for manager review.

Communication

a. Communicates with the Employment & Community Manager daily.

b. Completes required reports and documents as required by oversight agencies.

c. Provides information to prospective supported employment customers and their families about the customized employment process

f. Provide face to face or telephone contacts with the customer’s employment supervisor on behalf of the customer.

g. Provide face to face or telephone contact with the customer’s support network to facilitate the customer’s employment.

h. Consult with employer when needed to solve problems related to employee performance, support needs or emerging accommodation needs

I. Develops positive working relationships with area businesses.

Expectations, Deadlines

a. Perform face-to-face contact with clients.

b. Assists in the creation of job placements.

c. Attend (in person) 180-day staffing meeting

d. Represents the agency in the community.

e. Provides direct training to customers on job duties of community employment.

f. Provides follow-up training. Visits as needed to employers and customers.

g. Documents daily billable hours and progress or lack of progress.

h. Submit reports for payment in the outcome-based system when customers achieve specific identified outcomes, defined as Benchmarks.

Job Development

Assist the customer with identifying prospective employers by matching their preferences, skills and requirements.

Contact prospective employers on behalf of the customer and negotiating the customer’s employment.

Ensures employment is being provided in an integrated work setting, where generally no more than one employee or 3% of the employees have disabilities.

Provide services and supports, including supervision and training, essential to sustain paid work by a customer.

Assist the customer with identifying prospective employers offering employment compatible with customers identified preferences, skills and requirements

Develops a detailed assessment of the customer that thoroughly identifies the customer’s skills, interests, abilities, employment preferences, support needs and accommodation strategies.

Leads a targeted prospecting process that includes the following process steps:

Develop a monthly call list of existing supported employment employers to be matched with current customers in Employment Assistance then consult with the job coach/employment consultant for follow-up and placement.

Develop a monthly call list of new employer prospects to be matched with current customers in Employment Assistance then consult with the job coach/employment consultant for follow-up and placement.

Develop a planned elevator pitch for use in presentations to potential employers and cross training job coaches/employment consultants

Qualifications, Education, Experience

Requirements: High School diploma or GED, and 3 years documented experience in a professional or personal setting routinely working with a person with disabilities. Preference: A Bachelor’s degree in rehabilitation business marketing or related human services and one year documented experience in a professional or personal setting routinely working with a person with disabilities

Must be at least 21 years of age to drive a company vehicle. Must be able to demonstrate competence in certain areas of training, i.e., CPR, CPI, First Aid, and Driving. Ability to recognize inappropriate or manipulative behavior in difficult or challenging situations. Ability to calmly and repetitively model appropriate behavior in difficult or challenging situations. Ability to react to situations, i.e., rescue, preventing a client from hurting themselves. Ability to speak effectively before groups of clients or employees.

Licenses, Certifications, Registrations

Valid Texas Driver’s license, clear driving record.

University of North Texas certified training requirements for TWS-VRS that includes 1) Job Coach & Job Skills Trainer, 2) Job Placement Specialist, and 3) Supported Employment Specialist.

Physical Demands

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally required to stand; sit; walk; use hands to finger; handle; reach with arms and hands; stoop; kneel; crouch; crawl; talk or hear; taste or smell. Must be able to lift and/or move at least 40 pounds in order to assist clients, such as wheel chair assistance. Specific vision abilities may include close vision; color vision and the ability to adjust focus. Exposure to outside weather conditions while working with clients. Noise level in the work environment is usually moderate to occasionally loud.
