Primary Purpose:Provide instructional support services. Assist the teacher in instruction, preparation, and management of classroom activities. Work under the direct supervision of the teacher(s).Qualifications:Education/CertificationAssociate Degree, two years of study (48 college hours) at an institute of higher learning, or meet formal academic assessmentValid Texas educational aide certificateSpecial Knowledge/SkillsAbility to assist with classroom instructionAbility to work well with childrenEffective communication (verbal and written), organizational, and interpersonal skillsAbility to speak and write Spanish, preferredExperience:Experience working with childrenMajor Responsibilities and Duties:Instructional Strategies
Provide direct instruction to students as assigned by the teacher and work with individual students and small groups.
Assist the teacher in preparing instructional materials and classroom displays, administering and scoring assignments and assessments, preparing records and reports, and maintaining a neat and orderly learning environment.
Assist with inventory, care, and maintenance of equipment.
Provide orientation and assistance to substitute teachers, as needed.
Assist in conducting parent involvement activities.
Student Management
Assist with classroom management.
Supervise students throughout the day, before and after school, inside and outside the classroom, in the cafeteria, in the hallway, at drop-off/pick-up locations, on the bus, on the playground, on field trips, and at other times and locations as assigned.
Keep the teacher informed of special needs and issues of individual students.
Professional Growth and Development
Maintain familiarity with district curriculum and initiatives to better serve the needs of students.
Participate in professional learning activities to improve job-related skills and demonstrate interest and initiative in professional improvement.
Attend and participate in staff meetings and special events as assigned.
Communication
Establish and maintain appropriate communication and a professional relationship with students, parents, and colleagues.
Present for students a positive role model that supports the mission of the district and demonstrate behavior that is professional, ethical, and responsible as set out in the Texas Educator Code of Ethics.
Articulate the districts mission and goals to the community and solicit community support.
Maintain strict confidentiality of student and district information.
