Electrician II Bookmark this Posting Print Preview | Apply for this Job Posting Details Position Information Job Title Electrician II Full Time/Part Time Full Time FLSA Non-Exempt General Job Description Performs highly technical work in the installation, alteration, maintenance, and repair of electrical systems, fixtures, apparatus, and equipment. Work assignments are received in written or oral form, and may be accompanied by sketches or blueprints. Work may be performed somewhat independently under the general supervision of the foreperson. Completed work is inspected primarily for conformity to specifications, instructions, and safety standards. Troubleshooting in dorms and campus buildings on a daily basis. Assists in preparation of special events on campus. Assists with new construction and remodeling projects as required. Reports to Electrical/Electronics Foreperson.Essential Job Functions
Installs, maintains, and repairs all electrical control panels, switches, circuit breakers, outlets, fixtures, fittings, and accessories on all high and low voltage circuits and apparatus.
Repairs small electrical tools and appliances.
Works from bucket on aerial lines when necessary.
May supervise student workers, helpers, and/or contract laborers.
May purchase materials.
May pre-set shutdowns for scheduled maintenance.
May be required to work overtime on special projects or in emergency situations.
May act as foreperson in his/her temporary absence.
May be required to work under adverse conditions (darkness, bad weather, high voltage situations, etc.).
Non-Essential Job Functions
May assist supervisor in maintaining materials inventory.
Performs other related duties as assigned.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
The individual must possess these skills and abilities or be able to explain and demonstrate that the individual can perform the essential functions of the job, with or without reasonable accommodation, using some other combination of skills and abilities.
Must possess a combination of electrician and lineman skills.
Ability to climb wood and steel poles.
Ability to climb ladders of all types and all heights.
Knowledge of high voltage termination and splices underground and overhead.
Knowledge of occupational hazards and safety procedures.
Ability to get along with people and work as a team member.
Ability to promote good customer relations.
Knowledge of standard methods, practices, materials, tools, and equipment of the electrical trade (national code for electrical installations).
Ability to understand and carry out oral and written instructions and to interpret and work from blueprints and sketches.
Ability to deal effectively with the public, contractors, utility companies, suppliers, etc.
Ability to plan work.
Physical condition adequate to permit full performance of duties
Physical Demands
May require carrying heavy tools and equipment up and down several flights of stairs.Required Education High school diploma or equivalent is required.Required Experience and Training Five years of experience in high and low voltage electrical work involving interior and exterior wiring is required. Journeyman electrician license is required. Repair of electrical equipment, including completion of a recognized apprenticeship in the electrical trade, may also be considered.Preferred Qualifications College degree is preferred.
