Together, we are building a better world, so we can all enjoy living in it.It's More Than a Job, It's a Career (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Wf0PVJdUOWo)As the Senior Tax Manager for U.S. Research & Development (“R&D”), you will be responsible for expert counsel and knowledge of Caterpillar’s U.S. Federal and State R&D tax credit and Section 174 expenses. This role manages the compliance processes understanding dependent computations, oversees the quarterly estimate and provision process, and manages and makes key decisions to sustain the R&D tax credit upon audit. The position also regularly interacts with business partners to advise on projects and identify areas of opportunity and risk.What You Will Do:

Leading the transformation of U.S. R&D processes to better utilize technology, enhance analytics, and generate insights

Performing both detailed and quality reviews on the U.S. Federal and State R&D credit computations as well as Section 174 expenses utilizing technical expertise, understanding complexity of data, and applying tax reporting requirements

Monitoring, analyzing, and determining impact of proposed legislation and court cases by applying Caterpillar facts

Leading U.S. Tax Reporting & Analysis team members in responding to government requests, analyzing impacts, and guiding resolution in consideration of enterprise impact

Proactively collaborating with business partners to ensure appropriate information is gathered and analyzed

Managing team deadlines across the tax calendar and lifecycle and developing opportunities for staff

What You Have:

Education/Experience: The position typically requires a Bachelor’s Degree in accounting, finance, or business related degree and 6+ years of progressively responsible tax related experience.

Tax Management: Knowledge of U.S. research & development credit with ability to advise, develop policies and controls, and monitor tax reporting requirements and case law

Producing Results: Ensures time, resources, and actions are focused on priorities and understands criticality of getting things done

Influencing through Expertise: Analyzes gaps within organization and provides appropriate solutions; shares expertise on critical issues

Problem Solving: Ability to apply knowledge of problem solving appropriately to diverse situations; analyzes and synthesizes information and devises alternative resolution strategies

Top Candidates Will Also Have:

Technical expertise in Section 41 tax credit for a large corporation with numerous business components

Proven ability to manage a team, multiple projects, and determine prioritization

Demonstrate high levels of initiative, good judgment, and superior communication skills

Collaborative and team-oriented personality with the ability to build and foster relationships throughout the organization

Understanding of accounting and business processes

Knowledge of M365 and familiarity with PowerBI

Additional Details :

This position can be located in Peoria, IL, Chicago, IL or at our new global headquarters in Irving, TX

Domestic relocation is available for those who qualify

Travel expectation: 5-10%
