Job Summary:
The Utility Trailer Service Technician is responsible for inspecting, diagnosing, repairing, and maintaining utility trailers, including electrical, suspension, and structural components. This role involves hands-on mechanical and technical work to ensure trailers are safe, reliable, and in optimal operating condition. The Technician must be capable of using a variety of tools and diagnostic equipment and should demonstrate strong problem-solving skills.
Key Responsibilities:
Inspection and Diagnosis:
Conduct comprehensive inspections on utility trailers, including lighting, electrical, suspension, axles, and structural integrity. Diagnose and troubleshoot mechanical and electrical issues to determine necessary repairs.
Repair and Maintenance:
Perform routine maintenance and repairs, including electrical rewiring and component replacement. Repair or replace worn or damaged parts and ensure that trailers meet safety standards. Test all repaired systems and ensure trailers are operational before returning them to customers.
Documentation and Reporting:
Maintain accurate records of inspections, repairs, and maintenance tasks performed. Communicate effectively with management regarding repair needs, parts inventory, and work completed. Provide estimates for repair costs when required.
Safety and Compliance:
Follow all safety protocols to ensure a safe working environment. Ensure compliance with state and federal regulations regarding trailer repairs and safety. Utilize personal protective equipment (PPE) and maintain clean work areas.
Customer Service:
Interact with customers to explain issues with trailers and discuss repair options. Provide excellent customer service by addressing questions and ensuring customer satisfaction with repairs.
Required Qualifications:
High school diploma or equivalent; vocational training or certification in mechanics or related field is a plus. Proven experience as a trailer technician, mechanic, or similar role. Strong knowledge of trailer systems, including lighting, electrical, and suspension. Proficiency in welding and familiarity with diagnostic equipment.
