Job description
In this role, you will:
Perform routine and non-routine activities involved in the preparation of gastrointestinal specimens for Histological processing, according to policies and procedures.
Assure appropriate specimen accessioning and labeling.
Perform gross description and dissection of specimens received.
Recognize when troubleshooting is needed for processing, embedding, cutting, staining.
Work in a fast-paced laboratory environment with biological and chemical hazards
Champion safety, compliance, and quality control
Qualifications:
Must possess necessary qualifications to perform high complexity testing under the Clinical Laboratories Improvement Amendments of 1988 (CLIA) regulations (Sec. 493.1489) - SEE OTHER QULIFICATIONS
1 year experience in grossing preferred
Strong reading, writing, and analytical skills.
Ability to operate general laboratory equipment, including but not limited to telephones, computers, automated analyzers, centrifuges, microscopes, manual and automated pipettes, and audible alarms.
Other qualifications
Degree Holder: Doctoral, master’s, or bachelor’s in chemical, biological, clinical or medical lab science, or medical technology (including outside of the US)
Alternate Qualification: Meet criteria under §493.1443(b)(3) or §493.1449(c)(4)/(5)
Associate degree: In lab science or medical lab technology from an accredited institution
Equivalent Education & Training:
60 semester hours including:
24 hours in lab tech or science courses (with specific chemistry and biology requirements)
Clinical lab training via:
ABHES or CAAHEP-accredited program, or
3 months documented training per specialty
