Requirements

The VFD/PLC Technician (VT) will support the development, assembly, repair, and maintenance of Automation controls within the S3S fleet of electrical systems. They are responsible for the installation, programming, and troubleshooting a variety of VFD & PLC projects to ensure they remain on schedule, within budget, and in compliance with industry standards, HSE, and S3S-Standards

Essential Functions:

Panel Wireman II (PW2) responsibilities, plus:

Load programs into PLCs and parameters sets into VFDs.

Possess working knowledge of Variable Frequency Drive electrical systems.  (Siemens, Yaskawa, AB)

Excellent troubleshooting abilities.  

Identifying needs for VFD electronic devices.  

Installation, repair, and maintenance of PLCs and Variable Frequency Drives, motor drives, and 480v systems.

Performing testing of various PLC / VFD controls units.  

Checking electrical components stocks levels and restocking them. 

Repairing electrical devices and equipment.  

Replacing old or defective electronic devices with new ones.  

Calibrating the newly installed devices and equipment.  

Basic PLC troubleshooting.

Perform upgrades of hardware and software and assist in training others on how to properly operate the system.

Educate and train the team members on these devices.  

Provide tech support to field personnel when needed.

Maintaining Variable Frequency Devices on a regular basis.  

Perform QA/QC checks prior to “Green-Tag” and properly record test results.

Working in collaboration with the Shop, Electrical, and Engineering team members.

Identify unsafe conditions or potential hazards within the work environment and report.

May be asked to provide evaluation input of current PW1 and PW2 employees for internal promotion.

Other duties as assigned by the EM.

May be required to work in other locations from time to time.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

Read and interpret Engineering Drawings, Schematics and BOMs.

Sketch/Draw electrical system structures.  

Understanding of the working of Variable Frequency Drive equipment.     

Understanding of the workings of PLC equipment.     

Experience working with low voltage devices, such as 600VAC and lower.

Knowledge and experience in calibrating equipment.  

Exceptional oral and written communication skills in English (Spanish is a plus).  

Ability to utilize measuring devices: tape measure, caliper, thread gauge, etc.

Must be mechanically inclined / adept, and familiar with hand tools.

Ability to identify the thread size and specification of an unknown fastener.

Understanding of proper fastener installation, and torquing.

Ability to use a variety of hand and power tools.

Able to communicate effectively with others.

Must have manual dexterity and ability to lift up to 50 lbs.

Able to understand and carry out routine oral and written instructions.

Minimum Required Education, Credentials, Licenses and Experience:

High School Diploma, or equivalent GED

2+ Years of work experience as a Variable Frequency Drive Field Technician, Variable Frequency Drive Technician, or a similar position in the Engineering field.  

2+ Years of work experience as a PLC technician (Siemens, Omron), or a similar position in the Engineering field. (Preferred)

Forklift Certified (Preferred, Certification on-site available)
