Install, configure, and support an organization's local area network (LAN), wide area network (WAN), and internet systems or a segment of a network system.

Monitor network to ensure network availability to all system users and perform necessary maintenance to support network availability.

Plan, coordinate, and implement network security measures.

Supervise other network support and client server specialists and plan, coordinate, and implement network security measures.

Operate master consoles to monitor the performance of computer systems and networks, and to coordinate computer network access and use.

Design, configure, and test computer hardware, networking software and operating system software.

Recommend changes to improve systems and network configurations, and determine hardware or software requirements related to such changes.

Confer with network users about how to solve existing system problems.

Train people in computer system use.

Load computer tapes and disks, and install software and printer paper or forms.

Research new technologies by attending seminars, reading trade articles, or taking classes, and implement or recommend the implementation of new technologies.

Requirements

Bachelor's Degree in Information Technology, Computer Science or equivalent is commonly sought; however, substantial experience may substitute for formal education.

Approximately three to five years of experience in system administration is generally required.

Advanced knowledge of system vulnerabilities and security issues.

Strong understanding of networking protocols and infrastructure.

In-depth knowledge of different operating systems (Linux, Windows, etc.).

Demonstrated ability to identify, diagnose and resolve technical issues independently.

Proficiency with scripting languages such as Python, Perl, or PowerShell for automation tasks is a plus.

Familiarity with cloud services including AWS, Google Cloud, or Azure can be desirable.

Relevant professional certifications, such as Microsoft Certified: Azure Administrator, AWS Certified SysOps Administrator, or CompTIA Server+, are preferred.

Strong problem-solving skills and an ability to prioritize tasks in a high-pressure environment.

Excellent communication skills, especially in documenting procedures and system configurations.

Teamwork-oriented attitude, ready to collaborate on projects and share knowledge with colleagues.

Ability to be on-call periodically to provide after-hour and weekend support, if necessary.

Must be physically capable of installing IT equipment such as servers, if required.
