Stadium Dr., 4th FloorWorkdays & Hours: Monday - Friday, 8:00 a.m.- 5:00 p.m.Subject to changeDESCRIPTION OF DUTIES/ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONSThe Houston Health Department is seeking a qualified candidate for the position of a Surveillance Investigator to perform the following job functions:· Tracks and traces HIV/STI patients through surveillance methods.· Conducts record searches on assigned HIV/STI cases under surveillance· Researches, locates, and investigates individuals through surveillance methods .· Acts as liaison to medical providers and/or staff and other governmental agencies involvedin surveillance activities and projects.· Establishes rapport with staff of HIV/STI and Viral Hepatitis Bureau.· Collects and analyzes data and prepares reports on investigative activities and findings tobe reviewed by Program Supervisor and/or Manager.· Performs other duties as assigned by Supervisor and Manager.WORKING CONDITIONS The position is physically comfortable; the individual has discretion about walking, standing, etc. There are no major sources of discomfort, i.e., essentially normal office environment with acceptable lighting, temperature and air conditions.MINIMUM REQUIREMENTSEDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTSRequires a Bachelor's degree in Public Health, Physical Sciences, Social Sciences or a related field.EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTSOne (1) year of professional experience in public health or health care is required. Internships, practicums, and similar programs may be evaluated and substituted for professional experience.LICENSE REQUIREMENTSNone.PREFERENCESPreference shall be given to eligible veteran applicants provided such persons possess the qualifications necessary for competent discharge of the duties involved in the position applied for, such persons are among the most qualified candidates for the position, and all other factors in accordance with Executive Order 1-6. · Working knowledge of HIV/STI (history, epidemiological profile, transmission, prevention, treatment)· Demonstrated experience working in the HIV/STI prevention, care and/or treatment field· Demonstrated experience working with federally funded HIV/STI programs· Working knowledge of health policies and regulations impacting HIV/STI prevention activities· Excellent written, oral, presentation, facilitation and interpersonal skills· Ability to handle and prioritize multiple, diverse assignments· Ability to plan and carry out complex, multidisciplinary projects· Demonstrated experience working with professional and clinical staff· Ability to navigate within and among diverse institutions with competing priorities· Demonstrated cultural sensitivity and ability to work comfortably with communities highly impacted by HIV, including but not limited to Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, and Queer (LGBTQ) individuals, gender non-conforming individuals, people who inject drugs, etc.· Proficiency with Microsoft Office programs and other basic email and web softwareGENERAL INFORMATIONSELECTION/SKILLS TESTS REQUIRED: NoneThe selection process will involve application review and/or interview.
