Summary:The primary purpose of the Student Extern position is to perform finance business support functions commensurate with a college student's senior year of study. Initial duties will include extensive training in institutional systems and processes to develop the skills required to take on the following duties and responsibilities: performing basic account reconciliations, research activities for budgeting and financial reporting, data consolidation and analysis. Participation in special projects in support of the General Accounting and other institutional financial staff will be required on an ad hoc basis.KEY RESPONSIBILITIESParticipate in Institutional Finance/Supply Chain Management Training:Complete training in Oracle PeopleSoft functions, OBIEE reports, Requisition creation, Accounts Payable, Procure to Pay, General Accounting entry creation and submission and Excel data consolidation.Assist in development of detailed training process documentation.Analysis and Data Management:Performs queries over large collections of data. Consolidates, summarizes, analyzes and interprets transaction data to support analytical reporting and trend analysis. Documents meaningful interpretation of results while identifying patterns/trends with deliverables.Research Activities for Budget and Financial Reporting Purposes:Run queries for personnel and non-personnel transactions to assist with budgeting efforts.Research transactions to determine the root causes of balance sheet and income statement account balance changes and propose potential adjustments.Basic Account Reconciliations:Reconcile activity on basic financial statement accounts, including, but not limited to bank accounts, cash clearing accounts, accrual, prepaid and expense accounts.Identify reconciling items and propose solutions for incorrect journal entry postings.Record Standard Recurring Journal Entries:Prepare journal entries to record basic recurring accounting transactions, including, but not limited to inter-departmental transfers and non-salary cost transfers.Training, Mentoring, Cross Coverage:Seeks out cross functional training opportunities. Collaborate with department colleagues to learn more efficient ways to enhance deliverables.Other duties as assigned.Required Education:High school diploma or equivalent.
