POSITION OVERVIEWApplications Accepted from: ALL PERSONS INTERSTED Section: Capital Projects (CP) Reporting Location: 611 Walker St.Workdays & Hours: M - F, 8 am - 5 pmSubject to changeDESCRIPTION OF DUTIES AND ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONSCoordinates a variety of engineering activities and personnel to identify, evaluate, manage and rehabilitate various facilities and conveyance systems related to Water & Wastewater. Provides technical guidance and training to technical staff, more specifically, the duties of the Senior Project Manager will include but are not limited to:

Coordinates the implementation of various drawings, plans, projects and contracts.

Reviews and updates plans, specifications and cost estimates.

Prepares and reviews technical correspondence, reports, procedural guidelines and project schedules.

Interfaces with departments, consultants, technical professionals and general public to address inquiries.

Develops reports and other administrative documents.

Provides technical support and expertise on various projects, plans and programs.

Conducts on-site field observations and inspections.

Interprets codes to ensure consistent applications.

Participates in hearings, meetings and conferences.

Assists in preparing contract documents, evaluation of bids, responses to vendor inquiries and awards contract correspondence.

Reviews and monitors work activities performed by external consultants.

WORKING CONDITIONSThere are occasional discomforts from exposure to moderate heat, cold, moisture/wetness and unpleasant air conditions. The position may involve occasional exposure to soiled materials and light chemical substances such as cleaning solutions. The position requires stooping, bending and/or lifting of items of up to 30 pounds with occasional periods of walking on rough surfaces. Requires the ability to make simple gross motor responses within large tolerances. This is a Department of Houston Public Works Position at the Tier 1 Level.MINIMUM REQUIREMENTSEDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS Requires a Bachelor's degree in Architecture, Civil Engineering, Construction Management, Landscape Architecture, Project Management or a closely related field based on the responsibilities of the position. Considerable knowledge of design or construction is required.EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTSSix (6) years of experience in construction, construction inspection, design, landscape design, geo-technical, environmental or a closely related field are required.Directly related professional architectural, construction or landscape design experience may be substituted for the education requirement on a year-for-year basis.LICENSE REQUIREMENTSNonePREFERENCESPreference shall be given to eligible veteran applicants provided such persons possess the qualifications necessary for competent discharge of the duties involved in the position applied for, such persons are among the most qualified candidates for the position, and all other factors in accordance with Executive Order 1-6.GENERAL INFORMATIONSELECTION/SKILLS TESTS REQUIRED: NoneHowever, the department may administer a skill assessment evaluation.SAFETY IMPACT POSITION: Yes If yes, this position is subject to random drug testing and if a promotional position, candidate must pass an assignment drug test.SALARY INFORMATION Factors used in determining the salary offered include the candidate's qualifications as well as the pay rates of other employees in this classification.
