Project Director, Facilities Planning Design & Construction

SUMMARYThe primary purpose of the Facilities Project Director position is to lead and direct Capital and Facilities Improvement projects ranging from $4 million to hundreds of millions. The individual will provide leadership by planning, organizing and managing staff to implement the assigned projects. Initially, the Project Director will identify, define the need for, establish the preliminary total project cost for, and develop the initial schedule for, projects to be included in the CIP to be approved by The University of Texas Board of Regents. Upon approval of the CIP, the Project Director, in conjunction with the Director, Major Projects, will assemble and lead a team to complete the programming and design development phases as needed to obtain approval of the construction application from the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board (THECB). Upon approval from the THECB construction application, the Project Director will oversee the completion of the design, construction, activation, and closeout phases of the project.JOB SPECIFIC COMPETENCIESProject Management Leads assigned project by providing daily oversight and supervision of assigned Project Management Staff for all phases of project. Coordinate and conduct periodic meetings to apprise Project Core Team, Senior Leadership or Facilities Steering Committee as to status of assigned projects focusing on the overall project schedule, budget, and resolution of pending issues. Develop, monitor, and adjust staffing plans for assigned projects to ensure that projects are appropriately staffed during each project phase to ensure timely, cost-effective project completion.Financial / Communication Ensures accuracy and monitors project budgets to ensure they comply with approved budget limitations. Identifies and takes corrective action as necessary. Ensures that change order revisions and schedule changes are understood and communicated. Develop, monitor and adjust project communications plans for assigned projects to ensure that appropriate project information is effectively communicated to appropriate audiences within the institution at the appropriate times. Develop and make presentations as needed to effectively communicate appropriate project information to organizations outside the institution (e.g. Board of Regents, Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board, Texas Medical Center).Personnel Management Human Resources, including supervising available personnel in the production of the business unit's products and services; making hiring recommendations for staff positions; conducting performance evaluations and handling personnel issues; completing appropriate reviews and recommendations on promotions, salary, and other personnel matters; establishing goals, determining resource requirements, and allocating available resources to meet those goals; creating and implementing changes as needed to meet departmental, divisional, or institutional goals.Other duties as assigned. Other duties as assigned.Bachelors degree in Architecture, Engineering, Construction Management, Construction Science or related field.
