Will serve as a consultant for Pre/Post Procedure Policy & Procedure development, Co-Chair the Education Committees for PACU and Quality- Analyzes SI event for trends, and identify areas of educational opportunity/competency for both Pre/Post Procedures.The ideal candidate will have PACU experience, Master's degree, and five years of Registered Nurse experience in a Perioperative setting to include three years of experience with staff development, training, coaching or formal clinical education experience. Should be able to work flexible hours including weekends occasionally.KEY FUNCTIONSClinical Resource
Makes rounds in the Pre/Post procedure unit daily, serving as a key resource for staff regarding policy/practice standards/competency
Communicates weekly with Nurse Managers/Assistant Nurse Managers regarding practice/competency issues and learning needs of employees
Collaborates with management team and Institutional Education Instructor to develop educational interventions to increase competency levels of staff incorporating Perioperative Guidelines, Intra Procedure guidelines, and Institutional and Professional practice standards
Identifies and analyzes aggregate competency data and designs appropriate strategies to address identified competency issues
Serves as an expert of Perioperative patient care issues
Serves as a member of the clinical practice committee
Orientation of Employees
Collaborates with management team, Institutional Education Instructor, for clinical orientation pathways of newly hired Pre/Post procedure employees and their selected coaches and mentors
Develops and assesses orientation competencies of Pre/Post procedure employees
Uses PBDS feedback and new employee assessment data to design individualized learning plan for orientees
Works with Institutional Education Instructor, to identify resources and strategies to implement the learner's individualized plan
Works with clinical coaches, management team, Institutional Education Instructor, to monitor and document progress of learner activities
Provides coaching & development for clinical coaches
Pre-Procedure & PACU Residency/Internship Program
Participates in selection of candidates for RN Residency program
Coordinates labs and clinical experiences for RN Residents
Assists Education Instructor in coordinating classroom activities for residents in clinical as needed
Teaches selected classes
Evaluates progress of residents/interns
Meets regularly with management team, Institutional Education Instructor, and coaches/learners to discuss progress
Continuing Education
Identifies potential CE offerings for Pre/Post Procedure employees
Collaborates with Institutional Education Instructor in the implementation of CE Offerings
Serves as a back up to Education Instructor for the coordination of CE offerings
Serves as a resource to service-specific education modules
Attends "Coach Connections" offerings
In-service Education
Designs, develops, implements and coordinates in-service education for Pre/Post Procedure employees based on identified learning needs
Provides responsive just-in-time in-service education to meet learning needs identified on rounds, etc.
Ensures all documentation and attendance records of In-service Education offerings are maintained
Competency Assessment
Works with Institutional Education Instructor to ensure all organizational/Nursing Division competency requirements are met
Identifies core role-specific employee competencies for Pre/Post Procedure
Assesses competency needs to be addressed for employees Pre/Post Procedure based on aggregate data collected
Coordinates annual clinical competency assessment strategies in collaboration with management team, Institutional Education Instructor and members of Education Team
Performs other duties as assigned.EDUCATIONRequired: Bachelor's degree in Nursing.EXPERIENCERequired: Five years registered nursing experience in a Perioperative setting to include three years of experience with staff development, training, coaching or formal clinical education experience.CERTIFICATIONCurrent State of Texas Professional Nursing license (RN). Basic Life Support (BLS) or Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) certification. Preferred: American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS), ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) or PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support) certification as required by patient care area.Additional Information
