Job Description
KIPP Texas Regional Directors of Special Populations assume primary responsibility for the day-to-day operations of Special Education service implementation across their KIPP Texas region. Directors are highly-skilled communicators and problem-solvers who successfully support schools with program implementation, instructional delivery, and addressing challenges that arise within Special Education.
Directors of Special Populations possess:
- Knowledge and skill related to Special Education instruction and service delivery across the continuum of services.
- Knowledge and skill related to 504, RTI, and Dyslexia.
- Experience developing and implementing strong Behavior Intervention Plans for students with behavior needs.
- Experience and skill around facilitation of professional learning with teachers and paraprofessionals.
- Exemplary communication skills and the ability to build and maintain collaborative partnerships with diverse stakeholders, especially in challenging situations.
- Strong knowledge of state and federal laws and procedures, and a track record of improving and/or maintaining school and organizational compliance with laws and timelines.
- The ability to support KIPP Texas’s mission, vision, and strategic direction through modeling, coaching, and other direct action.
Qualifications
Education and Knowledge
- Bachelor’s degree required
- Master’s degree preferred
- 5+ years experience teaching with a focus on special education services
- 3+ years leadership experience at the school or district level preferred
- 3+ years experience working with response to intervention, section 504 and dyslexia services
- Knowledge of Procedural Safeguards, ARD Process, TEA State Performance Plan Indicators, and Due Process
- Knowledge of the KTX instructional priorities (Explicit Instruction and Universal Design for Learning)

- Demonstrated ability to navigate challenging or contentious legal situations
- Ability to prioritize and initiate tasks, manage time, and complete multiple projects within tight deadlines
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Strong organizational and planning skills
- Strong analytical skills
- Excellent attention to detail and a high level of accuracy is necessary
