MISSION STATEMENTThe mission of The University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center is to eliminate cancer in Texas, the nation, and the world through outstanding programs that integrate patient care, research and prevention, and through education for undergraduate and graduate students, trainees, professionals, employees and the public.Job SummaryThe Pediatric Creative Arts Therapist (Art Therapist) provides and promotes the creative arts therapies to support pediatric patients in processing emotions, creative self-expression, socialization, developing coping skills, and fostering emotional resilience while receiving medical care and treatment.Shift / Hours: Monday - Friday / 8am - 5pmIdeal Candidate would have Master's Degree in Art Therapy, as well as ATR or ATR-BC licensure. Along with three years working in a Pediatric clinical setting. Multilingual a plus. Please note this is a role for a Art Therapist (not dance or music).Essential FunctionsMeets and assesses patients within 24 hours of consult.Formulates and implements an individualized treatment plan that leverages the unique modalities of creative arts therapy to address identified patient needs and improve overall functioning.Creates and conducts personalized therapeutic interventions utilizing various creative modalities (art, music, drama, dance) based on patient needs, observations, and referrals.Participates in Arts in Medicine events and collaborative programming with community arts partners.Ensures accurate and up-to-date documentation of all patient sessions.REQUIREMENTSEDUCATION REQUIRED: Bachelor's Degree Art Education, Music Education, Psychology, Social Work, Human Development, Studio Art, Music, Theatre, Dance or related field.EDUCATION PREFERRED: Master's Degree Music Therapy, Art Therapy, Dance/Movement Therapy, Drama Therapy or related field.EXPERIENCE REQUIRED: Completion of an internship in a specific creative arts therapies discipline (music, art, dance/movement, or drama).EXPERIENCE PREFERRED: Three years Art Therapy experience in a clinical setting, pediatrics a plus.LICENSES AND CERTIFICATIONS REQUIRED:MT-BC - Music Therapist-Board Certifie The Certification Board for Music Therapists (CBMT) within 1 Year Required orATR - Registered Art Therapist Art Therapy Credentials Board within 1 Year Required orArt Therapy Board Certified (ATR-BC) Art Therapy Credentials Board within 1 Year Required orBoard Certified Dance Movement Therapist (BC-DMT) American Dance Therapy Association (ADTA) within 1 Year Required orRDT- Registered Drama Therapist within 1 Year Required andBLS - Basic Life Support American Heart Association (AHA).
