Memorial Private School was established in 2004 and is accredited by the top agency, Cognia (AdvancED/SACS), and is a private faith-based high school in the Memorial area in west Houston. Memorial Private is an outstanding 6th - 12th grade school that limits student count to 65 students total.
Memorial Private School runs a standard Aug - May school year, but also has a very popular Summer School program, where all of the students come from other high schools in Houston to take Summer courses from Memorial Private.
We have three Spanish teaching positions open for our large Summer School program, now in its 14th year. Our search criteria focuses on those with an interest in innovation, energy and willingness to take on a variety of tasks as needed. The right candidate MUST have experience teaching high school Spanish, Levels I - IV. We have clear curriculum and it is fairly straight-forward to catch on. You must be able to teach through Spanish level 4.
The SUMMER SCHOOL teaching positions are for 7.5 weeks. Summer School starts June 10th - July 18th. The school day runs from 8:00 to 3:30, Monday - Friday.
As a teacher here, you would come in for approximately 8 weeks at the most: part of the week before June 10th to prepare, six weeks of Summer School, and then part of the week after Summer School is over (i.e. week after July 19th), to wrap up. Teacher hours are about 8:00 - 3:30/45.
The right candidate will be very dependable and able to commit for the FULL summer schedule in-person. Classes are small, and you will be teaching one-to-one to each student and mostly small groups. This job, in particular, requires prior experience of at least three to five years working in a school, and experience working in a growing environment. The candidate also needs to be a person who can be highly flexible, try new things, and who loves working with others and loves outstanding customer service.
Memorial Private School's stand-alone school building is located in a beautiful area right next to a park in west Memorial, and surrounded by other schools. The majority of MPS students are typically between average to above average in intelligence. MPS is not equipped to accept students with behavior, or substance abuse problems.
Our regular (Fall thru Spring) students go on to colleges such as Baylor, A&M, UT, UH, Harvard, St. Thomas, Alabama and others. Memorial Private carefully maintains only 65 students max each year to retain its accepting and close family atmosphere. Our focus is on quality, rigorous academics, and the niche is the environment we create by minimizing anxiety, stress and hype, and learning through Socratic discussions.
The school is consistently busy with on-going events, get-togethers, Prom, Winter Dance, trips, StuCo, NHS, uniquely active lunch hour, weekly service to others, and many clubs, which the teachers sponsor. The whole school has a strong focus on research based learning, the neuroscience of learning, innovation in its infrastructure, and unique teaching techniques. AN ADDITIONAL OPENING FOR THE REGULAR (FALL thru SPRING) YEAR IS ALSO A POSSIBILITY.
