Responsible to manage all aspects of the Men’s Basketball program.Description of Duties

Organizes and directs all aspects of the NCAA Division I Basketball program including scheduling, practice, organization, budget management, public relations and scouting.

Schedules all contests and events.

Practice and game coaching.

Recruits student athletes.

Oversees statistical analysis of recruitment initiatives and targeted specific groups.

Monitors academic progress of the program’s student athletes and their retention.

Collaborates with other University departments in community involvement and public relations.

Assists in coordinating media coverage and fund raising.

Hires, supervises and evaluates assistant coaches.

Organizes, administrates, and develops a competitive program on a national level.

Supports the philosophy, goals and the mission of the university and its athletic programs as well as adheres to departmental, university, and NCAA policies and procedures.

Other duties and responsibilities as assigned.

Per University of Texas System Policy 157, applicants will be subject to a motor vehicle record check for their most recent thirty-six (36) month history. Out of State Drivers are required to submit a 36-month history MVR from their prior State of residence(s).Required ExperienceFive (5) years’ experience of collegiate and/or professional level coaching. Understanding of NCAA I rules and regulations.Preferred ExperienceN/AEquipmentUse of standard office equipment, personal computer, and audio/visual equipment.Working ConditionsNeeds to be able to successfully perform all required duties. Long and varied hours. Frequent weekend and evening activities. Travel with overnight and/or multi-day stays required. UTRGV is a distributed institution, which requires presence at multiple locations throughout the Rio Grande Valley. Work is performed primarily in a general office/game environment across the Rio Grande Valley.Other Understand and adhere to all policies and procedures of the University, Conference and the NCAA . Assume complete responsibility to ensure that the student-athletes conduct themselves in an appropriate manner in accordance with NCAA policies. Understand that violation(s) of NCAA rules could result in sanctions being placed against the Department of Intercollegiate Athletics and the University. Attend regularly scheduled compliance meetings to maintain knowledge of current and recently established policies. Have familiarity and knowledge of NCAA Division I rules required as part of job duties.
