The Texas Fire Museum is looking for a heavy line mechanic to join our restoration and repair team. We work Monday through Thursday with all major holidays off. Our facility is very busy and has years of restoration projects in que with additional projects waiting in line to be added to the waiting list.
The Texas Fire Museum specializes in the restoration and repair of antique fire apparatus. We are also in the process of becoming a Restoration Academy whereby we will be offering a comprehensive restoration training program including scholarships and internships. Do you have the skills and physical ability to work as a member of our team and help us make this program a reality; working while teaching the skills of the trade to the next generation?
Our ideal candidate is someone with substantial skills who is willing to teach, but also willing and motivated to learn. Our restoration manager is willing and eager to teach if you are a candidate that is short on knowledge in an area or two but motivated to learn. We also need an individual who is willing to adapt and innovate as we bring new technologies like electric vehicle conversions, plastic mold making and CNC parts fabrication into reality.
Job Description
Experience with complete engine diagnosis and repair
Experience with standard transmissions, drive lines and rear differentials
Ignition systems including Dual point, magneto
Brakes systems including air, air over hydraulic, vacuum over hydraulic, hydraulic and manual
Fuel systems including carburetors, mechanical and electrical fuel pumps.
Electrical including 6 Volt Positive Ground, 12 volt +/-, 24 Volt +/- along with the ability to re-wire and convert between the various systems
Ability to work with precision tools and measuring equipment
Ability to work as a team under the direction of our restoration manager. Must work well with other disciplines to coordinate paint/body/mechanical and decoration on multiple projects at once.
Extensive documentation skills on paper, photographs and video a must. You-Tube type videos on various procedures will be a part of this job. All videos will be the property of the Texas Fire Museum
Candidate must follow existing restoration procedures for disassembly, cataloging of parts, restoration and reassembly.
