Tenaska, Inc. is looking to hire a Data Scientist I position in Irving, Texas. The position will actively participate in the development of energy resource optimization technologies. The essential job functions are as follows: Drive algorithm and model development to forecast power market variables including energy and ancillary services prices and to perform optimal bidding of flexible resources in the physical and virtual day-ahead and real-time power markets. Apply creative thinking, state-of-the-art techniques and effective tools to perform supervised, unsupervised and reinforcement learning to solve forecasting and optimization problems in energy markets. Evaluate and enhance the performance of existing algorithms and forecast models to ensure they meet or exceed efficiency and accuracy benchmarks. Conduct in-depth research to perform probabilistic time series forecasting with feature-based approaches and deep learning technologies, keeping abreast of the latest advancements in machine learning approaches for time series. Help establish, drive and share best practices across the model development lifecycle. Maintain a high level of attention to detail in all aspects of work, ensuring the accuracy and reliability of developed solutions.

POSITION REQUIREMENTS: Position requires a Master of Science degree (foreign equivalent accepted) in Mathematics, Computer Science, or a related field, and experience with, or academic exposure to, the following specific tools and environments:

Python and C/C#, as applied to data science production pipelines

Exhibit willingness and proven ability to learn new technologies quickly as needed to solve problems

Working with databases of many kinds, from RDBMS to NoSQL and time series databases

Machine learning data preparation concepts (cross validation, folding, boosting, feature engineering) with clear understanding of time series related concerns

Developing and implementing machine learning models for supervised, unsupervised and reinforcement learning including CNNs, GBDTs, GANs, Deep Q Learning among other approaches

C and Python programming languages

Machine learning frameworks such as Tensorflow, PyTorch, XGBoost, LightGBM and API wrappers like Keras
