Position Overview
The Driver Assistant works alongside the truck driver to ensure safe, efficient, and timely delivery of goods. This role plays a key part in supporting logistics operations by assisting with freight handling, documentation, vehicle upkeep, and customer service. The Driver Assistant must maintain a high level of professionalism and adhere to all company policies, safety regulations, and Department of Transportation (DOT) guidelines.
Key Responsibilities
Assist the driver with loading, unloading, and securing freight to prevent damage or shifting during transit.
Verify shipment accuracy by checking delivery documents, invoices, and manifests.
Provide navigational support, including GPS use, map reading, and route planning assistance.
Communicate effectively with dispatch, warehouse staff, customers, and delivery recipients.
Support vehicle safety by assisting with pre-trip and post-trip inspections, reporting any maintenance needs.
Maintain the cleanliness and organization of the truck cab and trailer.
Uphold company standards of customer service during all delivery interactions.
Follow all safety procedures and compliance requirements for freight handling and transportation.
Assist in ensuring on-time deliveries by supporting the driver with efficient unloading and route execution.
Qualifications & Requirements
High school diploma or GED preferred.
Previous experience in trucking, delivery, or warehouse operations desirable.
Ability to lift and carry 50–75 lbs and perform physically demanding tasks.
Strong communication and teamwork skills.
Familiarity with road safety, freight handling, and DOT regulations a plus.
Flexibility to work variable hours, including evenings, weekends, or overtime as needed.
