This job is a member of the Information Technology team within the Information Technology Division.

The Senior Principal Architect, IOC Technology is responsible for providing the technical direction and leadership in the architecture, design, development and deployment of solutions used primarily at the Integrated Operations Center (IOC), the nerve center of American’s operation. You will leverage your technical knowledge, expertise and experience to support the IOC in keeping the operations running smoothly and making the best possible decisions to get our customers to their destinations as close to schedule as possible.

What you'll do

Responsible for technical excellence of a major product or product group.

Responsible for creating detailed designs, defining patterns, coding key components, troubleshooting technical issues, securing, modernizing, refactoring and technical debt reduction.

Responsible for elevating team’s technical maturity in design, testing, availability, security and other non-functionals….

Mentors product and portfolio developers

Responsible for product/product group and technical stakeholder management.

Risk Management: Identify and mitigate IT risks, ensuring compliance with security standards and regulations.

Innovation: Drive innovation within the organization by exploring new technologies and implementing solutions that improve efficiency and drive business value.

Communication: Effectively communicate technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders, facilitating understanding and buy-in for IT initiatives.

Strategic Planning: Develop and execute IT strategies aligned with business objectives, ensuring technology initiatives support organizational goals.

All you'll need for successMinimum Qualifications- Education & Prior Job Experience

Bachelor's in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Technology, Information Systems (CIS/MIS), Engineering or related technical discipline, or equivalent experience/training

Minimum 8 years of IT technical leadership experience in designing and operationalizing Mid-range and Cloud native applications.

5 years of application systems design experience

2 years architectural and design experience

Preferred Qualifications- Education & Prior Job Experience

7 years of application systems design experience

3 years architectural/design experience, or technical/team leadership experience

2 years of high-level solution and detailed technical design in Microsoft Azure

Airline industry experience

Skills, Licenses & Certifications

Successful experience executing product and/or portfolio initiatives.

Recognized as a highly competent engineer who takes initiative to solve technical problems.

Hands-on experience in systems development in a variety of computing architectures and environments, with a deep understanding of architectural concepts, issues, and trends

Thorough understanding of software development life cycles, development and technology tools, testing methodologies, and requirements gathering

Hands-on experience in developing applications using Java and Spring frameworks

Experience with containerization strategies and serverless application architectures

Experience developing cloud solutions using Azure services such as Kubernetes, Functions, App Service, Event Hub, Service Bus or similar

Knowledge of Relational and NOSQL databases such as Oracle, PostgreSql, SQL Server, Cosmos or similar experience

Knowledge of systems integration practices and understanding of Service Oriented Architecture principles, practices, and related technologies, such as XML, SOAP, REST, and JSON)

Experience with Event Driven Architecture using modeling tools

Ability to generate conceptual and high level architecture design artifacts

Experience conducting design and architecture reviews

Proficiency in object-oriented design techniques and principles

Expertise in Disaster recovery and business continuity planning

Experience in Agile methodologies

Experience with DevOps Toolchain technologies

Knowledge of Azure data platforms and services

Ability to manage multiple efforts concurrently with the skills to keep complex initiatives moving forward quickly while exercising an appropriate level of procedural discipline

Ability to build strong and sustainable relationships with internal and external stakeholders
