JOB SUMMARYThe Room Control Specialist obtains patient information in order to assign, control and log appropriate service accommodations for patients admitted to the medical facility. This position coordinates special transfers according to room availability, admission approvals from other medical facilities and serves as a facility liasion related to account maintenance tasks to ensure patient account accuracy.SHIFT AND SCHEDULEFull Time: Monday to Friday 4:00 pm - 12:30 amESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS OF THE ROLE
Accepts reservations for incoming patients, urgent admissions, and day surgeries.
Facilitates transfers from other healthcare organizations with Administration by collecting appropriate demographic and financial data, approving transfers that meet criteria, and obtaining approvals for exceptions to the transfer policies.
Coordinates activities with the nursing staff and physicians to accommodate reservations due to impending conditions such as bed shortages, staff shortages, room transfers and patient overflow.
Monitors the hospital occupancy and notifies facility identified leadership of impending capacity issues.
Facilitates bed reconciliation activities with the floors.
Follows and ensures compliance of system and revenue cycle policies and procedures.
Monitors and provides reports, as requested, for patient movements and updates for all impending and in-house activities.
Performs necessary corrections and edits for in-house or pending patient activity.
Serves as a subject matter expert related to account maintenance tasks and corrections.
Works specific reports and queues to ensure patient account information is secured for maximum financial reimbursement.
KEY SUCCESS FACTORS
Previous experience in healthcare related field preferred.
Proven ability to problem-solve, perform critical thinking.
Requires good listening and communication skills, and professional telephone etiquette.
Ability to maintain a professional demeanor in a highly stressful and emotional environment, to include crime, behavioral health and/or suffering patients in addition to life/death situations.
Must be able to exhibit a high level of empathy with the ability to effectively communicate with patients and family members during traumatic events, while demonstrating exceptional customer service skills.
Demonstrates ability to manage multiple, changing priorities in an effective and organized manner.
Excellent data entry, numeric, typing and computer navigational skills.
Basic computer skills including Microsoft Office and Excel.
