Wildlife in Focus
The mission ofWildlife in Focus(WiF) is to preserve and protect the native wildlife and their habitats in South Texas. As a 501c3 non-profit organization, we strive to create an atmosphere of cooperation among businesses, private landowners, and wildlife photographers where all participants benefit while promoting the conservation and protection of wildlife and habitat. The current tools used to accomplish our mission statement are:
1. A biennial 4-to-5-month Wildlife photography contest that teams’ photographers and private landowners or public nature areas. There are around 50 categories including a variety of nature from small insects to giant Texas sunsets and night skies. Photographers, Ranchers, landowners’ parks personnel all learn so much about their properties and camera skills from the experience. Landowners get a taste of what can be a new income stream. There is prize money and other potential ecotourism benefits.
2. Outreach to Schools after school programs, camps, etc. using the photos of the contest to teach in memorable ways everything from environmental vocabulary to Natural History to weather and ecosystems. We have produced books and Teks approved curriculums online, nature camp lessons and are always looking for exciting ways to teach people that our wildlife and habitat are worth saving and valuable.Kritters4Kids Educator and Coordinator
Duties include but not be limited to the following:
Manage and participate in education outreach and promotion of our Kritters4Kids Environmental Education Program
Evaluate Education Program with a participant survey.
Seek out sponsors and partners for our programs and events.
Recruit volunteers, teachers, and after school program leaders to update and make our programs more effective.
Coordinate the training of volunteer educators and delivery of programs.
Seek & Execute on Grant Opportunities
Manage/coordinate summer and winter kids camp that features environmental science program and beautiful natural area experiences K4k Training and Guidance will be provided by experienced volunteers.
