About the Position: The mission of the CCAD is to overhaul, repair, modify, retrofit, test and modernize helicopters, engines and components for all services and foreign military customers. We provide worldwide on-site maintenance services, aircraft crash analysis, lubricating oil analysis, chemical, metallurgical and training support. Responsibilities Create and edit Computer Numerical Controlled (CNC) programs for a variety of modern machining equipment. Create initial programs using CAD/CAM systems which may need manual editing or revising at the machining center as the program is verified. Operate a variety of modern multi-axis CNC machining equipment with or without live tooling. Operate additive manufacturing 3D printers, laser cutters or engravers, or conventional/manual machines. Manage the full inventory of established CNC programs on a server using a Distributed Numerical Control (DNC) system and keeps programs updated to reflect changes in technical data or customer specifications. Minimum Qualifications (Screen Out Element): Ability to do the work of an Machinist (CNC Programmer) without more than normal supervision. The ability to perform common Machinist (CNC Programmer) duties. Skilled in operating CNC machines in automatic and semiautomatic mode and make logical decisions at each program stop or decision point to manually input, change, adjust, or otherwise complete the machine instructions to produce a quality finished product and prevent machine collision and damage to machine tooling or part. Planning sequences of machine operations involving innovations in setups. - Failure to meet this Screen Out Element will result in an ineligible rating. Ability to Do the Work of the Position without More Than Normal Supervision Ability to Use Hand Tools for Machine Shop Ability to Use Shop Drawings Knowledge of Metals Measurement and Layout Operation of Machine Tools Technical Practices (Theoretical, Precise, Artistic) PHYSICAL EFFORT: May be required to lift items weighing up to 35 pounds without assistance, and over 50 pounds with assistance from another worker or weight handling equipment. The work involves continuous standing and reaching with intermittent walking, stooping, bending, sitting, and lifting. Overhead crane, hand trucks, lifts and other workers are available to assist with heavier items. WORKING CONDITIONS: Works in a well-lighted, heated, ventilated shop with concrete floors. Exposed to dust from grinding, oil from machines, dirt, heat, noises, and fumes. Subject to the hazards of burns from hot metal chips, dust in the lungs, cuts, bruises, injuries to hands from use of machine and hand tools, skin irritation from contact with coolants, lubricants, and abrasive compounds, and to strains from infrequent moving, lifting, and handling of heavy items. Wears safety glasses, safety shoes and other safety apparel and equipment as required. Education Additional Information Male applicants born after December 31, 1959, must complete a Pre-Employment Certification Statement for Selective Service Registration. You will be required to provide proof of U.S. Citizenship. One year trial/probationary period may be required. Direct deposit of pay is required. This is a Materiel Maintenance Management Career Field position. Selection is subject to restrictions resulting from Department of Defense referral system for displaced employees. Salary includes applicable locality pay or Local Market Supplement. Payment of Permanent Change of Station (PCS) costs is not authorized, based on a determination that a PCS move is not in the Government interest.
