This is a Direct Hire Authority (DHA) solicitation utilizing the DHA for Domestic Defense Industrial Base Facilities and the Major Range and Test Facilities Base to recruit and appoint qualified candidates to positions in the competitive service. About the Position: located in Qualifications Responsibilities Inspect grounds, buildings, and storage areas on the installation to maintain awareness of pest presence. Determine the appropriate method of pest controls to areas with pest problems. Provide pest management information and support to a wide range of personnel on the installation. Serve as the representative for pest control contracts. Plan and carry out gardening work based on project plans, master landscape, long-range facility plans, and supervisor guidance, making independent judgments within the framework of good gardening practices. Requirements Conditions of Employment Qualifications About the Position: Responsible for a complete facility pest control program on installation and make visual inspections for pests or evidence of their presence, mix and apply pesticides, and accomplish specialized pest control procedures in accordance with regulatory requirements. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. There is no specific length of training or experience required. However, you must be able to demonstrate, through experience shown in your written application materials that you possess the sufficient knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the work of this position without more than normal supervision. Minimum Qualifications (Screen Out Element): Ability to do the work of a(n) Pest Controller (Gardner) without more than normal supervision. Perform common duties of determining appropriate pest control measures, controlling or eradicating a wide of variety of pests; identifying a wide range of insects, plant and vertebrate pests by species and mixing a variety of insecticides and herbicides and ensuring compliance with Federal and State regulations. - Failure to meet this Screen out Element will result in an ineligible rating. PHYSICAL EFFORT: Work requires stooping, bending, standing, walking, and working in tiring positions. Works on ladders and scaffolds and occasionally is required to work overhead or in stretched, cramped or awkward positions, and hard to reach places. Frequently lifts and carries weights up to 25 pounds and occasionally weights up to 50 pounds. WORKING CONDITIONS: Work is performed inside and outside of buildings. Incumbent is exposed to weather conditions when working outside. There is exposure to dirt, dust, spray, fumes, and grease. There is danger of cuts from hand and power tools and danger from flying splinters and chips, and exposure to noise and sawdust when operating power tools. There is possibility of cuts, bruises, broken bones, and a danger of falls when working above ground level. Wears such protective equipment as goggles and respirator when mixing and applying pesticides and herbicides. Work assignments involve a thorough knowledge of hazardous material handling and related activities. Incumbent is required to successfully complete a variety of hazardous material classes. There is a possibility of exposure to hazardous chemicals and fumes from spills and/or leaks and incumbent may be required to wear protective clothing (e.g., rubber boots, coveralls, goggles, aprons, gloves, respirator, etc.) Education Additional Information Male applicants born after December 31, 1959, must complete a Pre-Employment Certification Statement for Selective Service Registration.
