Position Information Posting Number 20113010 Position Title Certified Plumber FTE 1.0 Position Type Staff Department Associate VP Facilities Management Position Summary Information Job Summary/Basic Function About This Role: Responsibilities include servicing, troubleshooting, and repairing water, sewer, or gas distribution lines. Candidate will be required to repair, replace and maintain valves, fixtures, backflow prevention devices and other associated equipment. Employees are reminded that they represent both the department and the university and are expected to maintain a clean, neat and professional appearance while on duty. The candidate will routinely work with other crafts and will be required to monitor contracted work and provide training to subordinate employees. This position is considered as essential, and employees will be required to work as scheduled when University offices are closed due to emergency situations or natural disasters. These specialists work under the direct supervision of the Plumbing Supervisor, in the Facilities Maintenance department.What You’ll Do – Position Responsibilities:
Considerable knowledge of the plumbing trade and theory of plumbing systems, fixtures and fittings
Materials, methods and tools used in the operation and repair of utility distribution systems
Troubleshoot, repair, maintain and replace utility systems, plumbing fixtures and associated equipment
Provides exemplary customer service to staff, students and faculty at Lamar University
Communicate effectively both orally and in writing and be able to understand and follow oral and written directions
Have a working knowledge of Microsoft Office and email applications
Maintain flexibility and be available for duty during short-notice or urgent situations
Work cooperatively with others and maintain excellent customer service
Work independently with little direction, meeting schedules and timelines
Key Competencies: The successful candidate shall be trained and knowledgeable in all aspects of repairing and servicing plumbing systems and associated fixtures and fittings. Direct plumbing experience in utility systems, such as municipal water, sanitary sewage, and gas distribution lines to adequately diagnose/repair related utilities is expected. The applicant should have a good working knowledge of Microsoft Office and email applications. Experience working with a Computerized Maintenance Management System is preferred. Employees are expected to lead by example, demonstrating the highest level of ethics. They are expected to work together to meet the needs of the department and university, by providing exemplary customer service to the staff, faculty and students.Physical Requirements: Tasks require the regular and, at times, sustained performance of moderately physically demanding work. Some combination of climbing and balancing, to include climbing ladders, stooping, kneeling, crawling, working at heights and working in confined spaces. May involve the lifting of moderately heavy objects, up to 45 pounds. An associate degree or completion of a formal technical training program within the plumbing field or a Texas State Journeyman’s License.
At least 5-years of direct plumbing experience may be accepted in lieu of a Journeyman’s license.
A high school diploma or GED .
A valid Texas driver’s license is required.
