Job Summary

We are a church in the Global Methodist denomination, adhering to scriptural, conservative doctrine in the great traditions of Methodism. We seek a like-minded music director who at first will primarily lead a traditional choir, but also will have the energy and interest to reach into our community, developing music-based ministries for children. You will need to know who Charles Wesley is, and you'll need to know how to make traditional relatable!

This church has been recovering from the loss of a beloved, talented volunteer choir director who served for four decades. This also is a new era for this church, which has recently absorbed Christians from churches around it.

Our new music director will be part of a team thinking about what it means to be a church in the 21st century and what it means to worship, doing whatever is necessary to glorify God and deliver a timeless message of salvation to a hurting world. We need someone who is simultaneously creative and a good team player. You will have many conversations with the pastor about the nature of worship and ministry, and you will report directly to the pastor.

The pay estimate is simply a rough range; ultimately, any offer will depend on the skills, experience and creativity a candidate brings. Bonus points for a candidate capable of training the choir while using the piano, or with the ability to participate in worship leadership.

Duties

Rehearse choir members on Wednesday nights, and lead the choir during an 11 a.m. Sunday service and other times as needed.

Coordinate with the pastor via e-mail and phone during the week regarding worship and ministry efforts.

Reach into our community (Scott County and south into the Kingsport/Lynn Garden area) to develop ministries introducing children to hope and grace.

Collaborate with other music ministers and educators in our area.

Experience

Proven experience in music direction or teaching in an educational setting is preferred.

Strong leadership skills with the ability to inspire and motivate people.

Excellent communication skills to effectively convey musical concepts and engage with diverse audiences.

A degree in Music Education or a related field is preferred but not mandatory for exceptional candidates with relevant experience.

Please think of this as an opportunity help grow the kingdom, and in the process, yourself!

Job Type: Part-time

Pay: $12,000.00 - $20,000.00 per year

Expected hours: No more than 15 per week
