Under the general supervision of the director of health services, plans, directs, and evaluates resident and employee health care in ambulatory health services.Functional Demands Able to lift 100 pounds, if necessary, to assist fallen resident. Able to lift 10 pounds for routine performance of essential functions.An individual in this position may be exposed to: Adverse indoor and outdoor environmental conditions, Bloodborne pathogens, Physical hazards (e.g., needle pricks, etc.), and Chemical hazards.Essential Functions Sees ambulatory patients in the health services office for selected laboratory testing, examination, diagnosis, and treatment of both chronic and acute episodic illnesses and minor injuries. Refers to physician as needed. Writes prescriptions and performs office procedures within the scope of expertise, protocols, and available equipment.Schedules follow-up visits in office or unit as needed.Performs physical examinations (Pap tests, etc.).Coordinates health promotional activities (providing printed information, routine testing, flu shots, mammograms, etc.).Performs employment physicals, TB testing, etc.Serves as a staff in-service resource.Maintains outpatient records.Compiles necessary reports concerning ambulatory care at facility.Works with families.Organizational Expectations Provides a positive and professional representation of the organization.Promotes culture of safety for patients through proper identification, reporting, documentation, and prevention.Maintains competency and knowledge of current standards of practice, trends, and developments in related scope of job role or practice.Adheres to infection-control policies and protocols, medication administration and storage procedures, and controlled substance regulations.Participates in ongoing quality improvement activities.Maintains compliance with organization’s policies, as well as established practices, protocols, and procedures of the position, department, and applicable professional standards.Complies with organizational and regulatory policies for handling confidential patient information.Demonstrates excellent customer service through his/her attitude and actions, consistent with the standards contained in the Vision, Mission, and Values of the organization.Adheres to professional standards, hospital policies and procedures, federal, state, and local requirements, and TJC standards and/or standards from other accrediting bodies.Job Requirements Minimum Education
Masters of Science in Nursing degree required.Minimum Education
Current approval by the joint Board of Medical Examiners and Board of Nursing to perform medical acts. Must be currently licensed as a registered nurse in the state. Because of the nature of responsibilities, it is preferable to have experience in counseling and teaching and have a master's degree.Minimum Work Experience
One year minimum of nurse practitioner experience preferred.Required Skills
