Position DescriptionThe Metro Nashville Planning Department is seeking to hire an experienced Planner 2 to join our Plan Review team.The purpose of the Metro Nashville Land Development Program is to provide design expertise, professional planning advice, and policy and regulatory tools and techniques to decision-makers, developers, and the public so they can have the information and regulatory framework to implement and apply the principles of sustainable development consistent with the community’s vision established in the General Plan.The Nashville region is home to more than two million people and more than 70,000 businesses. Reviews subdivisions, rezonings, and other applications related to the zoning code.
Guides applicants through the development process.
Writes staff reports advising the Planning Commission.
Reviews complex land development cases assigned to the Land Development Division of the Metropolitan Planning Department.
Performs and coordinate professional level work related to site plans, zone changes, PUDs, Specific Plans, text amendments, permits and subdivision plats.
Communicates at a high level with other Metro Departments, development professionals, citizens, and engineers.
Accurately processes, review, analyze and critique complex development issues with an emphasis on good urban design principles.
Writes clearly and prepare concise and accurate letters, reports and presentations with meticulous attention to detail.
Compliance with time-sensitive deadlines.
Clear and timely communication with a variety of stakeholders.
Minimum QualificationsBachelor’s degree in planning, or related field, from an accredited college or university and four (4) years of related experienceORMaster’s degree in planning or related field from an accredited college or university and two (2) years of related experience.Current planning experience for a local government is desiredCandidates with accreditations earned in a foreign institute are encouraged to apply.Note: Per Metro Ordinance No. SO94-1078. All employees of the Metropolitan Government shall be residents of the State of Tennessee or become residents of the state within six (6) months of employment as a prerequisite to employment with the Metropolitan GovernmentPreferred Experience, Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Knowledge of basic legal principles of land development and zoning
Knowledge of form-based codes and New Urbanism
