Position Summary: The Clinical Practice Specialist (CPS) is a registered professional nurse who demonstrates expertise in a specific area of nursing that has been further developed through Master's preparation. The CPS position is based on the needs of the patient and the health care system, and the expertise of the CPS. The CPS, under the direction of the Vice President/Director of Nursing and in collaboration with the Nurse Manager, is a leader, innovator, and change agent in pursuit of improved nursing practice and improved patient outcomes. Provides clinical practice to enhance quality in collaboration with patient, family, and health care team to produce optimal patient outcomes.
Participates in the development, implementation, and evaluation of standards of care and standards of practice.
Identifies needs, plans and implements educational programs within specialty area for staff, patients, and/or community.
Supports staff nurse advancement in collaboration with the unit manager in the clinical ladder process through consultation, education, and encouragement.
Participates in the quality improvement activities.
Collaborates with nursing and other health care professionals in the establishment of goals and implementation of the plan of care for clinically complicated cases.
Serves in a consultative role to staff, management and other health care professionals and community (assessment, identification of problem, plan, and follow-up).
Participates with nursing leadership and other disciplines to plan for the establishment and implementation of goals related to nursing practice/area of specialization.
Contributes to the advancement of the profession by providing professional presentations at conferences at the local, state, and/or national levels.
Plans and implements a program for continuing self development through maintaining membership in specialty nursing association, continuing education, and professional presentations.
Demonstrates clinical practice competency by maintaining certification(s) in specialty area.
Demonstrates knowledge and competency in providing for the age-specific needs of the population served, as defined by each specialty area.
Perform other related services as assigned or requested.
QualificationsMinimum Education: Master’s degree in a healthcare-related field. Preference for MSN. Minimum Experience: Five (5) years’ experience in specialty if masters in related health care field, two (2) years in specialty if masters in nursing. Licensure Requirements: Current registration in the State of Tennessee. Valid TN nursing license. Certification in area of specialty required or must attain within 2 years.
