Posting Open: 05/13/2024 Posting Close: 05/23/2024 at 11:59 pm EST Salary: Competitive Job Summary The primary purpose of this job is to plan a reliable interconnected transmission and telecommunication system at the lowest feasible cost; ensure that those systems are continually operated in a secure and dependable manner; and provide the necessary information for the sale and proper management of transmission and ancillary services for the benefit of all customers connected to the TVA system. In a specialist capacity, the incumbent supports the organization in completing the following responsibilities:

Perform analysis to test the adequacy of existing facilities, determine the operating constraints, compute available transmission capability (ATC) and identify when future changes to the systems are required.

Formulate alternative plans or operating arrangements and recommend the most reliable and economical alternative to alleviate the system problems identified in the above analysis.

Develop the project scope and prepare specification diagrams for recommended system additions.

Coordinate system additions and operating arrangements with customer requirements/requests and other groups inside and outside of TVA to ensure compatibility with strategic corporate goals.

Formulate and propose contingency plans for optimum system operation.

Coordinate transmission maintenance requests by both TVA and other transmission providers.

Perform special studies as required for the safe and reliable operation of the TVA power system.

As a transmission, telecommunication, or system security planning engineer, serves as the organizational specialist in a specific area of expertise. Makes decisions independently on engineering problems and methods. Represents the organization at meetings to resolve important technical questions. Works with other organizations and outside agencies on technical matters to ensure proper coordination. The knowledge and expertise required for this level of work results from progressive experience and mastery of the work described for Senior Level engineers. Publication of engineering papers and articles in professional and trade journals is desirable.

Usually performs as a staff advisor and consultant pertaining to a technical specialty. May at times provide technical direction, coordinate, and/or review the work of a small staff of engineers and technicians. Assigns work to meet schedule requirements.

Supervision Received

Supervision and guidance relate largely to overall objectives, critical issues, new concepts and policy matters. Consults with management concerning unusual problems and developments. May be temporarily assigned to work under the direction of a lead engineer on a large or complex project.

Skills and Proficiencies (May be job or organization specific)

Demonstrated mastery in the technical areas required at the senior level.

Demonstrated expert proficiency in one or more technical areas.

Demonstrated ability to effectively communicate and negotiate at all levels of engineering and management.

Minimum Qualifications (Consistent with Classification Standard)

Education and Experience/Certificates, Licenses, and Registration Requirements/Other Requirements

A B.S. Degree in electrical engineering from an accredited institution. Advanced degree in electrical engineering is desirable.

Several years of electrical engineering experience including extensive familiarity with the power and telecommunication equipment, control and protection systems, configuration of the TVA transmission and telecommunication systems and their interconnections, TVA transmission service guidelines, and open access requirements.

Professional Engineering License is desirable.

Membership in professional/technical societies is essential.
