Assistant Project Manager (Cabinetry and Millwork)

Haskel Sears Design is hiring a new Assistant Project Manager for millwork projects. This position involves design, project management, and some installation. Candidates with woodworking-specific experience or 3D modeling experience using Sketchup will be strongly considered for this role.

Summary of responsibilities:

- Supports the Project Manager by handling specific millwork projects.

- Interprets architectural drawings to determine a scope of work and facilitate an estimate.

- Creates detailed shop drawings and cut lists (in collaboration with the Shop Foreman) using industry standard CAD and 3D and word processing / spreadsheet software.

- Ensures project adherence to building codes and safety regulations.

- Manages project communication and ensures all parties are informed.

- May assist with client communication for millwork projects.

The Assistant Project Manager at Haskel Sears Design acts as the bridge between the creative vision and the physical realization of custom millwork projects. This role requires a blend of technical understanding, communication finesse, and organizational skills to ensure projects run smoothly from conception to completion.

Responsibilities:

- Project Intake and Management:

- Collaborates with clients to understand their needs, project scope, and desired aesthetics for custom millwork pieces.

- Gathers and documents all project requirements, including specifications, materials, finishes, and budget considerations.

- Manages project timelines, establishing milestones and deadlines for each stage of the project.

- Communicates effectively with clients, keeping them informed of project progress, addressing questions and concerns promptly.

- Technical Expertise and Communication:

- Works closely with the Shop Foreman and General Manager to translate client requirements into detailed and accurate shop drawings using industry-standard CAD and 3D software.

- Ensures shop drawings clearly communicate project specifications, dimensions, materials, and joinery details for the fabrication team.

- Collaborates with the Shop Production Manager on production planning and scheduling, considering project timelines and resource availability.

- Clearly communicates project details and any changes to the Shop Production Manager, Lead Installer (for installation considerations), and the Operations Manager.

- Quality Control and Project Completion:

- Conducts regular project reviews with the Shop Production Manager to monitor progress and ensure adherence to project specifications and quality standards.

- Coordinates final inspections of completed millwork pieces before installation.

- May assist with layout and installation in the field. OCCASIONAL MANUAL WORK / INSTALLATION SHOULD BE EXPECTED FOR THIS ROLE.

- Oversees the smooth handover from fabrication to installation, ensuring all necessary components and information are readily available for the Installer.

- Manages project documentation, including drawings, specifications, and communication records, for future reference.

Qualifications:

- Minimum 1-5 years of experience in the woodworking industry, construction field, or a related project management role. (1-2 years for Assistant Project Manager, 3-5 for Project Manager.

- Strong understanding of woodworking principles, materials, and construction terminology.

- Proficiency in using project management software (optional, but a plus) and ideally, basic knowledge of CAD software for creating shop drawings.

- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to effectively collaborate with clients, internal teams (Shop Foreman, Lead Installer, General Manager), and potentially architects or designers.

- Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously, prioritize tasks, and meet deadlines.

- A keen eye for detail and a commitment to ensuring project specifications and quality standards are met.

- A valid driver license is required. No exceptions.
