Our hospitals, care sites and clinicians are recognized for clinical and operational excellence.Primary Function/General Purpose of PositionAn employee in this position works directly with patients in the Pulmonary Rehab program, as part of an interdisciplinary team, to provide comprehensive services to develop an integrated treatment program that includes participant education, exercise training, psychosocial support, and follow-up.Employment QualificationsEducation: Graduate of an accredited school of respiratory therapy or fieldrelated to cardiopulmonary health. Respiratory care practitioners must becertified, registry preferred.Experience: Minimum of 3 years’ experience working in direct care of pulmonary patients. Experience in adult education preferred. Must beknowledgeable in care of patients with chronic lung disease, including commonlyused medications, energy conservation and breathing techniques, homeequipment and services, and expected response to exercise.Licensure, Registration, or Certification: Current SC license for respiratory Care Practitioners, BLS required, ACLS preferredEssential Job FunctionsAssists in data collection for exercise prescription as needed, includingparticipation in initial exercise assessment.Assists with orientation of new participants and in the development of the treatment plan with other staff members. Responsible for supervision and monitoring of patients during exercise, including monitoring blood pressure and pulse oximetry. Assesses response to exercise and makes recommendations to participant and staff. Documents daily patient information and progress. Teaches pulmonary educational classes as needed. Make recommendations to referring physicians regarding home respiratoryequipment and supplies.Participates in discharge planning including recommendations for future care. Attends 75% of scheduled staff meetings and team conferences. Is required to conduct one yearly inservice for staff. Keeps current in the field of pulmonary rehabilitation through journals, inservices, and conferences. Assists with Cardiac Rehab program as needed. Maintains confidential client records. All documentation is timely, legible, and concise, and in accordance with hospital policy Maintains upkeep of exercise area, equipment, and locker rooms. Assures general cleanliness of facility. Demonstrates the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the patients served in the department. Demonstrates knowledge of the principles of growth and development of the life span and possesses the ability to assess data reflective of the patient's status and interprets the appropriate information needed to identify each patient's requirements relative to his or her age, specific needs and to provide the care needed as described in departmental policies and procedures.
