Description We are offering a contract to hire employment opportunity for a Staff Accountant in the non-profit sector, based in Georgetown, South Carolina. This position involves key accounting responsibilities, including monitoring and maintaining various accounts, supervising accounting technicians and interns, and ensuring compliance with financial data. Responsibilities: Oversee the receipt and monitoring of State Accommodation Tax Fund Allocation to the City and review applications for eligibility. Develop, submit agendas to City Council, review, and process award documentation, and notify all applicants of award for accommodation and hospitality taxes. Coordinate with ATAX committee; advertise and preside over meetings to present applications. Maintain federal and state seized and forfeited accounts including records of seized funds pending Consent Orders of Forfeiture. Supervise the accounting technicians and interns and serve as backup staff for Purchasing Agent, and Revenue & Business License Manager. Create and update amortization schedules, debt service schedules, capital lease providers, and escrow accounts. Prepare journal entries, compile budget worksheets, and prepare PowerPoint presentations for meetings. Monitor and maintain FEMA/SCEMD and COVID-19 expenditures and review City’s designated marketing organizations expenditures to ensure compliance. Ensure compliance of financial data and assist Accounting Technician with adjustments and reconciling inventory. Maintain asset and depreciation schedules, review invoices for account distribution, assign asset numbers, post information to the fixed asset system, and reconcile general ledger accounts. Prepare and submit monthly, quarterly, and annual reports (including Notes 5-8 in CAFR) and audits. Effectively communicate with various groups and individuals such as department staff, consultants, auditors, the general public, other City department heads and staff, customers, etc. Attend meetings, training, conferences, and seminars to enhance job knowledge and skills. Requirements Proficient in Amortization procedures and calculations. Experienced in creating and maintaining Journal Entries. Ability to prepare Journal Entries accurately and efficiently. Understanding of Fixed Asset Depreciation techniques. Experience in Fixed Asset Accounting. Knowledge of Governmental accounting principles and practices. Capable of preparing and presenting Monthly Financial Reports. Bachelor's degree in Accounting or related field. Strong analytical and problem-solving skills. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills. Proficient in using accounting software and Microsoft Office Suite. Ability to work independently and as part of a team. Strong organizational skills and ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously. Committed to maintaining confidentiality and exercising discretion. Willingness to stay updated with industry trends and developments. Proven track record of maintaining accurate financial records and preparing clear and accurate reports for informational, auditing and operational use. Ability to interpret, apply and explain complex laws, codes, regulations and ordinances. Ability to meet critical deadlines while maintaining accuracy and quality. Demonstrated ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships.
