Location: Columbia, South Carolina

Job Type: Full-time for three months then go from there starting in mid April 2025

Schedule: Overnight shifts

Compensation: Negotiable based on experience and qualifications

About the Position:

We are seeking an experienced, compassionate, and professional Doula/Night Nurse to provide exceptional care and support to a new family during the postpartum period. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in newborn care, lactation support, and postpartum recovery. As a key part of our family’s support system, you will offer guidance, emotional support, and hands-on assistance to ensure a smooth transition into parenthood during overnight hours.

Key Responsibilities:

Provide overnight care for newborn(s), ensuring their safety and comfort throughout the night.

Assist with diaper changes, swaddling, and soothing techniques to help baby sleep.

Offer guidance on sleep routines and establishing healthy sleep habits for the newborn.

Assist with breastfeeding support during nighttime feedings, offering lactation guidance as needed.

Monitor and support the baby’s health and well-being, observing for any signs of distress or illness.

Ensure the baby’s sleeping environment is safe, clean, and conducive to restful sleep.

Provide light household assistance related to newborn care (e.g., sterilizing bottles, preparing formula, light cleaning).

Offer emotional and physical support to the birthing person during the postpartum period.

Provide guidance on recovery after childbirth, including recommendations for rest, hydration, and self-care.

Assist with lactation support, helping with proper latch techniques, positioning, and troubleshooting common breastfeeding challenges.

Offer advice on newborn care, including feeding schedules, bathing, soothing techniques, and developmental milestones.

Be a trusted resource for the family, answering questions, providing information, and offering comfort during the transition into parenthood.

Encourage and empower the birthing person and their family as they adjust to the demands of newborn care.

Qualifications:

Experience: Minimum 1 years of experience as a night nurse, postpartum doula, or newborn care specialist. Experience with overnight infant care is essential.

Knowledge: Strong understanding of newborn care, infant sleep patterns, breastfeeding, and postpartum recovery. Knowledge of common postpartum complications and the ability to recognize when professional medical help is needed.

Skills: Excellent communication skills, especially when working with new parents. Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to offer compassionate, non-judgmental support. Ability to provide hands-on support in a calm and reassuring manner.

Personal Traits: Compassionate, empathetic, patient, and reliable. Must be able to work independently and take initiative when needed.

Expectations:

Confidentiality: Respect the privacy of the family and provide care with discretion and professionalism.

Flexibility: Availability for overnight shifts with flexibility for weekends or holidays when required. Work on a recurring basis.

Dependability: Reliable and punctual, able to commit to the agreed-upon schedule without interruption.

Respect for Family Preferences: Understand and respect the family’s parenting choices, including feeding preferences (breastfeeding, formula, or combination feeding), sleep methods, and other childcare philosophies.
