JOB DESCRIPTION
The Market Pavilion Hotel and Grill 225 is currently seeking a skilled and detail-oriented Pastry Assistant to join our dynamic team. In this role, you will contribute to our hotel, restaurant, and retail café operations by crafting an array of pastries, artisan breads, cakes, pies, and desserts. All our creations are meticulously hand-crafted using only the finest ingredients, guided by our Executive Chef's expertise.
Position Details:
Ideal candidates will have working experience as a Pastry Chef, Pastry Assistant, or in a baking position in a hotel, restaurant, or retail baking environment. Applicants must have a stable work background, demonstrating the ability to maintain a pastry/baking position with a previous employer for at least 1 full year. Recipients of this position will possess good food knowledge, must be detail-oriented, and motivated. The Evening Pastry Chef Assistant will be responsible for preparing the pastry department for Grill 225 dinner service and will actively be involved in plating desserts to order in our fast-paced environment. Additionally, the Evening pastry assistant will work closely with the Executive Chef to produce breads, desserts, and cakes for the Market Pavilion Hotel, Grill 225, Pavilion Bar, and our retail store Café Pavilion.

POSITION DETAILS:
Ideal candidates will have prior experience in baking within a hotel, restaurant, or retail baking environment. A stable work background, demonstrating at least 1 year of continuous employment in a baking position, is essential. Successful applicants will possess a strong understanding of food, attention to detail, and motivation.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES OVERVIEW
- Plating a wide array of house made desserts to order and ensuring attractive presentation and creativity in our restaurant Grill 225.
- Production baking of artisan breads, pastries, croissants, donuts, cookies, pies, and cakes.
- Glazing and preparing fillings for cakes, pies, and pastries.
- Scaling recipes and ingredients.
- Understanding various types of doughs, yeasts, and fermentation.
- Utilizing baking ovens, steam injection, and techniques for desired crusts and
consistencies.
- Following recipe guidelines, including mixing ingredients and forming pastries and breads.
- Building recipes according to company standards.
- Practicing safe food handling procedures in accordance with S.C. DEHC regulations.
- Potential cross-training for food and beverage counter sales.
PHYSICAL JOB REQUIREMENTS
Candidates must be able to perform the following essential physical job functions daily:
- Stand or move continuously for 8 hours.
- Climb, balance, bend, stoop, and kneel frequently.
- Crouch, push, pull, squat, and work above the shoulders.
- Use both hands for shaping and kneading doughs, with continuous firm grasping.
- Comfortably use a cutting knife to slice breads and baguette rolls.
- Carry up to 40-50 pounds continuously and occasionally lift up to 40-50 pounds between the floor and waist.
- Push and pull various items weighing 40-50 pounds over distances up to 150 feet.
- Tolerate required protective equipment such as gloves and safety glasses continuously.

SCHEDULE FLEXIBILITY
Afternoon and Evening Schedule Flexibility:
The ideal candidate will have good schedule flexibility, with a willingness to work weekdays, weekends, and occasional holidays. Hours vary from afternoon to evening, typically from 2 pm to 11 pm. Full-time applicants with wide-ranging schedule flexibility will be given first consideration for this position. The individual must be available to work occasional major holidays such as Thanksgiving, Christmas Eve, Christmas Day. This position typically requires an average workweek of 32-40+ hours, with overtime hours possible based on business demands.

PRE-EMPLOYMENT DRUG SCREENING PROCESS:
