Position Summary & Objective       The Systems Engineer II is accountable for the performance of electrical power systems and controls for the hydro project and for meeting the budgeted costs for the systems. This role is also accountable for commissioning and testing of hydropower plant equipment. They review design drawings and documentation for others.AccountabilitiesAccountable for the integration and performance of “balance of plant” systems for the hydro project, including electrical power systems and controlsAccountable for meeting the budgeted costs for the systemsShow advancement in engineering capabilities, building on accumulated experienceEssential Functions Performed by the Position  Commit to work under company’s core values that include: a “one Team” mindset, open communication, and continuous improvementThe system design of hydro turbine-generator installations including integration of generator, excitation, switchgear, controls and auxiliary electrical componentsInterpreting and translating customer specifications, development of technical proposals, production of CAD drawings, vendor oversight, procedure development, and field installation and testing supportWith limited support from experienced engineers:Serve as the technical lead on increasingly complex projects from design concept/ proposal to the finished productAnalyze varied vendor solutions for pricing and qualityPerform field troubleshooting and testingPerform electrical analysis to verify designGenerate drawings, part lists, and requisitions for electrical systems and related componentsInitiate submittals to customers and/or suppliers and review and respond to comments on returned drawingsInteract with Marketing to develop balance of plant proposalsSupport additional project requirements as needed for Scheduling, Project Management, Proposals, Procurement, Operations, and Field Service departmentsConduct internal and external design reviews with multidisciplinary teams, customers, and vendorsWrite and assemble commissioning proceduresWrite and assemble Operation and Maintenance manualsReview product discrepancies versus design requirements and prescribe dispositionSatisfy ISO 9001 Quality Standards as they relate to these engineering tasksTravel to vendors independently to support quality, schedule, scope of work, inspections as neededAssign appropriate work to co-ops, Engineering Trainees, and Engineer I and support development and training as necessaryField commissioning lead for less-complex projectsDevelopment ResponsibilitiesDevelopment of analysis tools as necessaryDevelop strategic relationships with vendorsAuthoritiesDrawing and final acceptance of electrical systems work performed by sub-suppliersApproval of field and shop non-conformances and disposition of non-conformancesKnowledge, Skills, and Abilities Strong organizational skillsAbility to effectively communicateKnowledge in project managementAnalytical skillsLeadership skillsProblem solving skillsDetail-orientedAbility to work in teams and independentlyDrawing development, as neededHydraulic and electrical schematic reading and developmentPossess a firm grasp on the industry as a whole and stay up to date on evolving trends in hydro power technologies
