THE POSITION

The Pennsylvania Department of Human Services (DHS), Wernersville State Hospital is seeking two full-time Utility Plant Operator 1s to join their team of professionals. If you have the experience this position demands, join our team with this exciting career opportunity!DESCRIPTION OF WORKYou will assist in the operation and maintenance of the central boiler plant under the instruction and supervision of the Utility Plant Supervisor and/or a Utility Plant Operator 2. The central boiler plant continuously operates any combination of three 450HP coal fired water tube high pressure steam boilers, one 750HP oil fired fire tube high pressure steam boiler, and auxiliary equipment to provide Wernersville State Hospital with uninterrupted steam for space heating, hot water, air conditioning, as well as laundering and dietary operations. Duties of the position include acting as a fireman on an assigned shift, operating the coal handling system, and operating the boiler soot blowers.Interested in learning more? Full-time employment

Work hours cover all (3) shifts (7:00 AM to 3:00 PM, 3:00 PM to 11:00 PM, and 11:00 PM to 7:00 AM), including weekends and holidays. Typical rotation is (6) days of 7:00 AM to 3:00 PM with (4) days off, (7) days of 3:00 PM to 11:00 PM with (2) days off, and (7) days of 11:00 PM to 7:00 AM with (2) days off.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITYQUALIFICATIONS

Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:

Six months of experience as a Utility Plant Helper (commonwealth title); or

Six months of unskilled work experience assisting in the operation, maintenance, or repair of industrial, commercial, or institutional utility plant systems and related equipment, electronic equipment, electrical systems, heavy machinery, motors, engines, drives or hydraulic systems; or

An equivalent combination of experience and training.Other Requirements:

You must be able to perform essential job functions.Legal Requirements:

A conditional offer of employment will require a medical examination.

This position falls under the provisions of the Older Adult Protective Services Act.
