Penn State Global, a dynamic and comprehensive office which advances global engagement at Penn State and connects the University to the world, is seeking a Director of Personnel and Business Operations.Reporting to the Vice Provost for Penn State Global, the Director of Personnel and Business Operations serves as a key adviser and member of the leadership team, supporting the operational and workplace needs and concerns of Penn State Global employees. This position represents the Vice Provost through day-to-day oversight of administrative and operational functions, providing guidance, planning, and oversight for the business operations, budget administration and strategic human resource management for the growing array of strategic initiatives of Penn State Global.Penn State Global includes 90 staff members across Global Learning, Education Abroad, International Student & Scholar Advising, and Global Partnerships as well as the units that support and operationalize their work. In addition to facilitating the University's broad global engagement, Penn State Global serves and supports international students and faculty at all Penn State campuses. Penn State Global emphasizes teamwork, collegiality, and open communication, while offering a fast-paced and dynamic work environment. This is a leadership position that works alongside the executive administration of Penn State Global to determine the overall direction, strategy, and processes for workforce planning, development, and management for the office.Position Summary:
Ensure adherence to business and operational policies, procedures, and regulatory requirements; develop and implement policies and procedures; conduct regular audits to mitigate risk
Identify areas for process improvement within the vice provost office and the broader unit, implementing best practices to enhance productivity; ensure alignment across departments
Work with the unit's Financial Officer to coordinate budget development and financial analyses for strategic planning related to human resource funding allocation
Serve as a liaison with the unit's central Human Resources team and participate in the overall workforce planning strategy. Advise leadership on PSG-wide workforce planning and organizational structure
Proactively identify and advise leadership regarding potential HR changes that may impact positions and the work environment of PSG staff
Serve as a mediator or identify other resources to resolve employee conflicts, complaints, and other challenges with specific employees
Identify opportunities for employee professional development/training, career progression, equity adjustments, restructuring, and reclassification on an ongoing basis
Standardize and manage communications with individual employees regarding hiring, career progression, salary increases, etc.
Manage the new employee orientation and on-boarding process
Coordinate logistics for searches at the Director level and aboveEducation and Qualifications:
This position will be filled at the Manager level. Minimally requires a bachelor's degree or higher and eight plus years of relevant experience, which includes three or more years of supervisory experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.Due to the financial and iduciary responsibilities of this position, successful completion of a credit history check will be required in addition to standard background checks.Key Attributes:
