Sets up barricades and places safety lights around work site to protect workers from street traffic. Breaks up asphalt and concrete, using pneumatic power tools for trenching and compaction. Manually digs valve boxes and curb boxes, using shovel and digging bar. (45%)

Guides pipe sections, valves and fittings into position and holds pieces steady while worker tightens connections. Taps into pressurized water mains. Flares and connects copper and plastic piping. (20%)

Installs repair clamps on pressurized water mains and service lines. Operates valves and fire hydrants. Investigates complaints and determines corrective action per company procedure. (20%)

Operates pneumatic and/or hydraulic boring equipment. Completes all necessary forms, sketches, field notes and uses maps and records. Drives vehicles and/or trucks in performance of general job. (10%)

Directs the activities of any personnel assigned. Performs any other duties as assigned by supervisor. (5%)

Knowledge/Skills

Mechanical ability sufficient to understand the operation of pumps, valves, motors and other mechanical equipment related to operations and maintenance.

Working knowledge of distribution/collection systems.

Experience/EducationGED/High School graduate with vocational prepa ation includes an occupationally significant combination of vocational education, apprentice training, on-the- job training, and/or in-plant training or essential experience in less responsible jobs which lead to the higher job or serving in other jobs.Work Environment

Work is in environmental conditions including contact with wastewater, chemicals, fumes, odors and dust as a result of working with handling potentially hazardous wastewater treatment and laboratory chemicals.

Exposure to potentially harmful pathogens and gases in raw unprocessed wastewater creating potential for blood borne/airborne disease.

Electrical hazard conditions. Exposure to inclement weather mostly of short duration.

Certifications/Licenses

Valid Driver's License and ability to pass motor vehicle background check.

Class E water license preferred or ability to obtain within 3 years.

DOT Medical card or the ability to obtain.
