Conemaugh Nason Medical Center is seeking a PRN Respiratory Therapist. The Respiratory Therapist facilitates the provision of patient care by performing specific tests and support functions as ordered by a physician. Will utilize appropriate guest relations and communication in interactions with patients, families and other members of the health care team.Conemaugh Nason Medical Center is a 45-bed hospital that serves rural and suburban populations in Roaring Spring, Altoona, and parts of Blair, Bedford, and Huntingdon counties. Conemaugh Health System serves more than a half-million patients each year through the Nason Physician Group, Conemaugh Physician Group and Medical Staff, a network of four hospitals, specialty clinics and patient-focused programs.Essential Functions:Demonstrates knowledge of assessment and evaluation on all referred patients.Develop a plan of care on admission that reflects the care and educational needs related to the patient’s diagnosis. Manage and solves problems. Identifies anticipated needs for teaching to insure adequate self-care at discharge.Serves as a technical resource to physicians and other health care providers.Conducts physician prescribed treatments of a routine nature operating various O2 devices and medication nebulizers in order to administer prescribed medicinal vapors and gases, humidity, and various oxygen concentrations to the respiratory system of the patient.Performs physician prescribed procedures - i.e., EKG’s and Holter monitor procedures and completes appropriate documentation in a timely manner. Demonstrates the teaching needs of the patient and family are met, utilizing the teach-back methodology, to facilitate successful patient outcome at discharge.Performs chest physical therapy treatments involving percussion, postural drainage, and suctioning.Sets up, operates, and monitors mechanical ventilators when patient’s respiratory system is incapable of adequate spontaneous ventilation, under direction of Physician.Correctly sets alarms on all equipment, i.e., ventilators, pulse oximetry, etc., according to departmental policy and procedures.Records all pertinent information of treatments, and patient response to treatments in the patient’s medical record.Performs spirometry studies determining the volume, distribution, and movement of air in the respiratory system. Obtains peak expiratory flow rates on all asthmatic patients.Makes regular rounds-checking patient’s oxygen equipment, replacing humidifiers, as well as checking other cardiopulmonary equipment according to policy and procedure.Assures accuracy of patient identification through verifying patient name, date of birth, and/or medical record number prior to patient treatment.Establish and maintains a positive relationship with the patient and their family.Insures there has been contact with the case manager, social worker or other discipline as identified needs requiring intervention for discharge equipment.Consistently collaborates with the nurse caring for the patient and other team members to assure effective, timely discharge of the patient.Ensures all discharge related equipment and paperwork has been initiated and/or delivered for use at time of discharge.Properly enters all appropriate patient information and charges into the hospital computer system.Answers the telephone and pager calls pleasantly and respectfully in a timely manner. Directs callers to the proper service if unable to meet their needs.Provides age-appropriate self-directed therapy as per physician order.Reduces the risk of healthcare acquired infections by following current CDC hand hygiene guidelines as evidenced by the appropriate hand hygiene.Checks clinical equipment within their scope of practice to make sure that alarms are audible and working properly.Participates in discharge planning meetings as available.Takes an active role in the development and improvement of the department by assisting with promotion of additional skills and procedures as needed.Answers patient call lights and relays patient needs to their caregiver.Demonstrates proficiency in locating, assembly and use of all equipment and reports malfunctioning equipment immediately and removes from areas.Organizational Expectations:Demonstrates support of the mission, vision, values, goals and general policies of Conemaugh Nason Medical Center.Complies with corporate compliance guidelines and requirements of federal, state and local regulatory and accrediting agencies.Adheres to the standards of professional ethics and handles confidential information in strict conformance with departmental and Medical Center policies.Provides quality care and services consistent with Medical Center standards and participates in the Medical Center’s Continuous Quality Improvement Program.Demonstrates flexibility and adaptability in response to unexpected changes in the workload, emergencies, staffing and scheduling.Uses tact, sensitivity, sound judgment and a professional attitude when relating with co-workers, patients, families, and visitors.Performs duties in a self-directed and cooperative manner with minimal need for supervision. Minimum Education:

Training and certification in appropriate technical field.Required Licenses:

/Certifications:
